The Evolution and Impact of My Innovation Plan
When I first began the Applied Digital Learning program, my innovation plan focused on integrating iPads and QR codes into the library to enhance student engagement with digital resources. However, as my role evolved from a library paraprofessional to teaching 7th-grade Art and 8th-grade PALS, my innovation plan transformed alongside it. I realized that innovation is not just about technology, it is about engaging students in meaningful ways, fostering creativity, and developing leadership skills.
In my Art classroom, students now use iPads to create projects on apps like Canva and Art Set Sketchbook. Once their work is complete, they generate QR codes, which are displayed outside the classroom for others to scan and view. This process encourages student pride and interaction. Meanwhile, in my PALS class, students engage with leadership videos and activities designed to develop emotional intelligence and leadership skills. To further enhance their learning experience, I have incorporated digital portfolios and reflection journals, allowing students to track their progress in a creative and interactive way.
While I have seen significant progress, there is still work to be done. I am currently focused on collecting student feedback, refining assessment tools, and compiling an ePortfolio to document my innovation plan. Through this process, I have learned several valuable lessons. Flexibility and adaptation have been crucial, as shifting my focus allowed me to create a more relevant and impactful project. Student engagement has been strongest when activities are interactive and hands-on. Additionally, the integration of technology, such as QR codes and digital portfolios, has enhanced learning experiences.
However, there are areas for improvement. I aim to develop more structured assessment tools, explore additional digital resources, and increase collaboration with fellow educators. Moving forward, I plan to share my findings with school administration, create an online resource for teachers, and seek professional development opportunities to expand my approach. Looking back, I would have embraced flexibility and collaboration sooner, but overall, this journey has reinforced the importance of being student-centered, reflective, and adaptable. My next steps will continue to prioritize meeting students' needs while embracing new challenges in the classroom.
