Contribution to My Learning and the Learning Community
In this course, I’ve had the opportunity to grow as a self-directed learner, actively contributing to my own learning as well as supporting the learning of others in my group. Throughout the course, I collaborated closely with several members of my GroupMe community, including Ennija Armour, Khelia Williams, Joseph Perrone, Whitney Davis, Sonia Rodriguez, Patty, Melissa Richards, and Julisa Davis. These peers have played a crucial role in my learning, and I want to highlight how they impacted my growth, and how I, in turn, contributed to the group.
Self-Assessment: Score of 90
I have chosen to give myself a score of 90 for my contributions to my learning and the learning community. Here is a breakdown of my contributions, reflecting on what worked well and areas where I can improve, because there is always room for growth.
What Worked:
One of the most significant aspects of my learning experience was the collaborative dynamic within our GroupMe chat. This group provided a space for ongoing support, discussion, and encouragement. Each member contributed unique perspectives and insights, which enhanced my understanding of the course material and helped me think more critically about my assignments.
Ennija Armour- was particularly helpful in clarifying concepts and asking thought-provoking questions. Her feedback pushed me to dig deeper into the course readings and apply them more effectively to my work.
Khelia Williams- was always ready to share resources and her own learning strategies. She encouraged us to stay organized, which helped me manage my time better, especially when juggling multiple assignments.
Joseph Perrone- contributed significantly by offering technical assistance with the digital tools we were using for our ePortfolios. His guidance made it easier for me to navigate some of the challenges I faced in setting up my ePortfolio.
Whitney Davis and Sonia Rodriguez- often took the lead in group discussions, providing insightful analysis of the course material. Their contributions allowed me to see different angles and interpretations of the topics we were studying.
Patty, Melissa Richards, and Julisa Davis- were great at keeping the group motivated and reminding us of upcoming deadlines. Their encouragement helped create a positive and supportive learning environment.
Overall, my collaboration with these group members strengthened my understanding of the course concepts and helped me reflect on my learning. I was able to contribute to the group by sharing my thoughts on readings, offering feedback on their ideas, and providing support when anyone needed help with assignments.
Areas for Improvement:
While I am proud of my contributions, there are areas where I can improve. One of the challenges I faced was posting in a timely manner. Although I participated in all discussions and contributed to the group, there were times when I could have shared my thoughts earlier to give my peers more time to engage with my ideas. Going forward, I plan to be more proactive in sharing my reflections and insights sooner, allowing for more collaborative discussions. Another area I can improve is taking on more of a leadership role in group activities. While I was an active participant, I often took a more supportive role rather than leading discussions or taking the initiative to organize group activities. In future courses, I will work on being more assertive and stepping into a leadership position when needed.
Specific Contributions:
- I completed all course readings and supporting resources, which allowed me to contribute thoughtfully to discussions and provide feedback to my peers.
- I consistently revised my assignments based on feedback and reflected on those revisions to improve my work.
- I actively participated in discussions, both in the GroupMe chat and in the course forums, offering insights and responses to my classmates’ posts.
- I helped to build a sense of community within our group by offering encouragement and support, which contributed to a positive and productive learning environment.
Final Reflection:
Overall, my contributions to this course were meaningful, and I believe I played an important role in my learning and that of my peers. My GroupMe community has been a key part of this process, and I’m grateful for the insights and support each member has provided. As I continue in this program, I aim to improve my timeliness in posting and step up as a leader in future collaborations. With this reflection in mind, I believe a score of 90 accurately reflects my efforts and contributions to my learning and the learning community. I am very grateful to have had caring community group members because when I felt like I was tackling too many assignments and my world felt like it was crumbling down and being a mother plus having a full time job they all brought me back to ground and reminded me that everything was okay. I will forever be grateful to my classmates.
