Outline Assignment
I. What is the topic of your action research?
The topic of my action research is the integration of iPads and QR codes into my 7th-grade Art and 8th-grade PALS (Peer Assistant Leadership Skills) classes to enhance student engagement, creativity, and interactive learning. This study will explore how these digital tools influence student participation, the development of leadership skills, and project-based learning experiences in the classroom.
II. What is the purpose of your study?
The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of integrating iPads and QR codes into Art and PALS classrooms to foster greater student engagement, creativity, and collaboration. By examining how students interact with these technologies, the research aims to evaluate whether such tools improve students' ability to express themselves artistically, lead their peers, and engage with digital resources in a more interactive and meaningful way.
III. What is your research question?
How does the integration of iPads and QR codes in 7th-grade Art and 8th-grade PALS classes impact student engagement, creativity, and leadership skill development?
IV. What is your research design (Qualitative, Quantitative, or Mixed Methods)?
Mixed Methods
a. Why did you choose this design?
A mixed-methods approach is ideal for capturing both measurable outcomes and deeper insights into students' experiences. Quantitative data, such as participation rates, digital portfolio submissions, and QR code scan analytics, will provide objective measures of engagement and interaction. Qualitative data from student surveys, classroom observations, and focus groups will allow for a deeper understanding of how students perceive and interact with the technologies, as well as the impact on their creativity and leadership skills.
V. What data will you collect?
Student surveys on engagement, creativity, and leadership skill development
Digital portfolio submissions (Art class)
QR code scan analytics (lesson materials, interactive content)
Classroom observations of student interactions with iPads and QR codes
Focus group discussions with students about their learning experiences and technology use
VI. What types of measurement will you use?
Pre- and post-surveys to measure changes in engagement, creativity, and leadership skills
Analysis of student artwork and digital projects to evaluate artistic and creative growth
QR code usage metrics to assess student engagement with lesson materials
Thematic analysis of qualitative data from focus group discussions and classroom observations to identify key patterns and insights
VII. What is the focus of your literature review?
The literature review will focus on:
The impact of digital technology on student engagement in creative and leadership-focused subjects
The role of QR codes in enhancing interactive learning environments
The effectiveness of iPads in Art education and leadership skill development
The potential for digital tools to foster collaboration and independent learning
The use of project-based learning (PBL) as an instructional strategy in Art and PALS classes
