Contribution to My Learning and the Learning Community
Throughout my journey in Developing Effective Professional Leadership (EDLD-5389-D01)_OL, I have learned that being a self-directed learner requires not only personal accountability but also a willingness to contribute to the learning community. This self-assessment allows me to reflect on my participation, collaboration, and overall contributions to both my own learning and the learning of my peers. I believe that my contributions have positively impacted my growth as a learner, and through this reflection, I will evaluate my performance and assign myself a numerical score based on the self-assessment marking guide.
What Is Working: One of the key aspects of this course that I feel I excelled in is collaborating with my learning community. My core group members, Kheila Williams and Ennija Armour, played a significant role in my learning journey. We consistently communicated through discussions, and whenever I needed guidance, they were always willing to review my work and provide constructive feedback. Their insights helped me improve my assignments, especially when working on my ePortfolio and other major projects. We would frequently FaceTime, Zoom, or use GroupMe to ask simple questions or clarify assignment instructions. These quick check-ins allowed us to stay on track and provided additional support during stressful times. This consistent communication made the learning process smoother and fostered a sense of community among us. Additionally, I stayed committed to revising my assignments based on feedback from both my peers and instructors. Each revision allowed me to reflect deeply on my work and make necessary adjustments to align with the course objectives. This process was not always easy, but it helped me develop a growth mindset by understanding that feedback is an essential part of the learning process. I actively participated in discussion boards and course forums, sharing my thoughts on various topics and responding to others in a timely manner. My posts were detailed, well-researched, and supported with APA citations. This not only helped me expand my own understanding but also contributed to the overall learning environment by sparking further discussions among my peers.
What Can Be Better: While I am proud of my contributions, I acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. One area where I could improve is managing my time more effectively. There were moments when I found myself procrastinating, which led to posting closer to deadlines. This limited the amount of time available for my classmates to respond to my posts or for me to engage in deeper conversations. Moving forward, I plan to post earlier to allow for more meaningful interactions. Another aspect I could enhance is initiating feedback without being prompted. While I regularly respond to posts, I would like to be more proactive in offering constructive feedback to others, even when not required by the assignment. This would further strengthen my role in the learning community.
Collaboration and Impact: The collaboration between EDLD 5389 and my previous course EDLD 5303 has been an essential part of my learning journey. Both courses emphasized the importance of the growth mindset and building an ePortfolio, which allowed me to connect ideas across different assignments. Conversations with Kheila Williams and Ennija Armour helped me refine my writing, clarify my ideas, and gain new perspectives. Their encouragement motivated me to push through challenging moments and submit my best work. These collaborative interactions not only improved my own work but also helped my classmates by providing feedback and fostering a supportive environment. I believe that working together made our group stronger, as we learned from one another and celebrated our collective progress.
Final Score: Based on the self-assessment marking guide, I believe I have earned a 95%. I have consistently contributed to the learning community, provided peer feedback, revised my assignments, completed all readings and activities, and participated actively in discussions. Although there are areas where I can improve, I am proud of the effort I have put into this course and the support I have provided to my peers.
