Usability
For the usability testing of my Google Classroom platform, I had my student, Edgar Aguirre, conduct the testing. I was able to get the right person for this process because Edgar is part of my 8th grade PALS class and represents the type of learner the classroom is designed for. His feedback was valuable because he could navigate the platform from a student’s perspective and provide insights on its usability. In the future, I would like to have more students test the platform to gather a wider range of feedback and better identify any common issues.
Using Google Classroom as my platform had a significant impact on the testing and results. The platform is user-friendly and familiar to many students, which made the navigation easier for Edgar. However, his feedback highlighted the importance of providing clear instructions and organizing materials in a way that makes them easy to access. Google Classroom’s built-in features, such as the stream and classwork tabs, helped streamline the experience.
One of the key lessons I learned from the usability testing was the importance of clarity in instructions and layout. Edgar mentioned that while the content was accessible, having step-by-step instructions for assignments and labeling each section clearly would improve the overall experience. His feedback emphasized the need to make the platform more visually organized and consistent.
To address the usability issues, I revised the design by adding more detailed instructions under each assignment and organizing materials into labeled topics. I also included visual aids like images and videos to support the instructions. Additionally, I streamlined the layout by reducing the number of posts in the stream to avoid overwhelming students.
This process significantly improved my course and the learner’s experience by creating a more organized and user-friendly environment. Students can now easily locate assignments and resources without confusion. The feedback helped me align my outcomes, activities, and assessments by ensuring that each assignment is clearly connected to the learning objectives.
To address infrastructure, system, and support needs, I plan to provide a help guide with step-by-step instructions and visuals on how to navigate Google Classroom. I will also be available during designated times for tech support and encourage students to ask questions whenever they face issues. Additionally, I will provide alternative access options, such as printed instructions or one-on-one guidance, for students who might struggle with technology.
Overall, this usability testing process was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to refine my digital classroom and better support my students' learning journeys.
