Genesis 2:20-25
The Two Will Become One Flesh
20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Matthew 19:4-6
The Two Will Become One Flesh
4"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? 6
So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
Marriage and the family are sacred to God...God made Eve from the rib He had taken from Adam...So God made Eve from a part of Adam...
A wife will always be a part of her husband, and a partner to her husband...Marriage and love are all about love and togetherness...When two give their vows to God, they now become one entity, a married loving couple...When the husband and wife are united, there also is mentioned a separation...That separation is that the man and woman must leave their fathers and mothers when they unite in a marriage...They have formed a new family one of their own...This is the separation mentioned in the Bible about husband and wife...The leave their original family to start a new family unit...
When a husband and wife are united in marriage and the two become one flesh...The two are to be in love...This is the natural order of His laws...This natural order is the basis of the family, and a family with children...All children have but one father, and one mother in the natural order of God's Laws...The love of the father and the mother helps keep the family together...The family is sacred to God, and Jesus emphasizes this by saying that the the husband and wife do become on flesh...And then He adds that they no longer are two, but one...Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate...These are one of the natural laws of God...God intended marriage to be permanent, and the children of the family to have and will have, but one mother and one father...But like many things, man does not follow always follow the natural laws of God, and the laws of nature...The not following process, started thousands of years ago in the Garden of Eden, when the very first married couple sinned, and had to leave their perfect home...
What do God and Jesus mean that man and his wife become one flesh?...They certainly mean that marriage is more than the sexual act of marriage and becoming one...God and Jesus teach us that they expect these two united by their sacred and Godly vows are expected to stay permanently married and be this one couple for life...The love of the man and for his wife, and the love of the wife for her husband have put them together, but God is the One who makes them one flesh...When Adam and Eve were together they were partners for life...They were the first life partners, and God expected them to always be together...
When a mother and father have their first child and other children, the children (even) feel this bond and love and togetherness of the family...The children learn of the permanence of marriage quickly, but also learn about separation and divorce...The natural laws of God wants us to do our very best, our utmost, whatever we can to maintain this permanence of marriage...As more and more children see divorce, more and more, they see the easier it becomes to look past one of the first natural laws of God...
When two people love each other, and are united in marriage, God expects and wants them to stay married...This should not surprise the believer, because God is love...God cannot be love one minute, or one year, and the next year not be love...Love is not here today and gone tomorrow...To God, love is not transient...Love lives on and on...Love is eternal...
