John 14:15-21
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
John 16:12-15
The Divine Holy Spirit
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
Matthew 18:19-20
Where Two or More are Gathered in His Name, Jesus is There
19 "Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."
Acts 2:1-13
The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
Jesus had to leave the earth and go back to His Father...And when the time was right and He had finished the will of God, then He would give the Disciples an Advocate to be with them...And this Advocate would be with them forever...This Advocate is also called the Holy Spirit...Jesus would leave us in body but not in Spirit...The Holy Spirit would remain with us, even after Jesus had left...Our Great and Divine Savior who could do anything, because He is divine...But Jesus went about His days on earth doing things so humbly and subtly that many overlooked His Divinity and that He is our Messiah...Jesus never acted arrogant or like the Exalted One that He is...And like the Holy Spirit He ask His Father to send us, (the Holy Spirit) always works in this same humble, quiet, and subtle way...Always working this way and really never wanting to gain the pomp and circumstance that the sacred and holy truly deserve...
Jesus would ask His Father to send the Holy Spirit to us and it will be with us forever...Jesus would have to ascend back to heaven, to be with His Father...Jesus was leaving the earth, but would not leave His Disciples as orphans...By sending them the Holy Spirit, He could be with them...He could in as many places as He is needed...The Holy Spirit is after all a True Spirit, and the Spirit of Truth...
Jesus teaches this that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth...The Holy Spirit teaches us about the Truth, and about Jesus...The Spirit of Truth cannot be seen by the world...The world cannot accept the Holy Spirit, because we are so often hindered by the material things we have we want to hang onto in this world...Some cannot hear or feel the Holy Spirit, because of this hindrance...At the Pentecost when the Disciples spoke after Jesus' ascension, only could see and think that the Disciples were drinking wine, and some made fun of them...Those that thought the Disciples were drinking and those who made fun of them, had little faith...The others that day had a stronger faith, and wanted to hear about the Truth that they were guiding them to and were talking about...The Holy Spirit proves that we are sinners and we are guilty before God...Jesus teaches us that the Holy Spirit does not speak on His own...The Holy Spirit only speaks of what Jesus has made known to Him...Jesus' physical body is different than His Spirit and the Holy Spirit that God would send the Disciples...His physical body would leave and ascend to heaven...The physical body could only be in one place...The Holy Spirit, being a Spirit, could be anywhere at anytime...So where two or more people are gathered in Jesus' name He can be there...The Holy Spirit is there in the place of Jesus' physical body...The Spirit can be anywhere at anytime helping us, guiding us, comforting us, and being our Advocate and Counselor...The indwelt Holy Spirit subtly works in the background of our lives and is guiding us and others in a most humble and assuming ways, because that is the way God and His Son are...The Holy Spirit guides us, but often has us planting seeds for others...As others watch what believers do around others and at work, they learn about the Holy Spirit and Jesus...The Advocate knows that our actions often guides others to Jesus and the Truth...The Advocate knows it is guiding us as well as aiding us and influencing us in the name of Jesus, which is the name of the Truth...That is why the Advocate is called the Spirit of Truth...As the Disciples learned after Jesus' resurrection and His ascension and then at the Pentecost -the Holy Spirit can be powerful when one is filled with the faith of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit...
And we can see the Disciples grew in faith and in confidence, when the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost...So we see there is a correlation in the Holy Spirit and our faith...We know that the Holy Spirit grew in the Disciples' lives after Jesus' resurrection...So the Holy Spirit can grow in us...The Holy Spirit grew in the Disciples, because their faith in their Savior grew...The Holy Spirit would give the Disciple great confidence, great belief, and great faith in Jesus for them to spread His word...
God has humbly and subtly put His Presence at work in the world with the Holy Spirit, while at the same time gives us free will...He has done this, because this is the kind of God He is...God is a forgiving, merciful, gracious, subtle, humble, non-controlling and LOVING God letting His children be free... Jesus worked and taught on earth in this way...Jesus was forgiving, subtle, humble, non-controlling, LOVING servant of His Father...For believers the Holy Spirit works much like Jesus...The Advocate leads us to the Truth in a subtle, non-controlling, and guiding way...Working in this way, and not in an arrogant, prideful, and controlling way -we learn much about LOVE...We learn about God's LOVE through the Holy Spirit (and Jesus), but also about some of the attributes of God...Those who follow Jesus see the Holy Spirit and the goodness it tries to guide us toward...Believers see that the Spirit in them produces LOVE and the way of life and the lifestyle that God intends for us...
