John 1:1-5
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 8:12
Jesus is the Light of The World
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:38
Jesus Teaches What He Has Seen in the Presence of God
38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
1 John 4:8
God is LOVE
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Mark 14:7
We Will Always Have the Poor
7 The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.
Matthew 24:6
Wars and Rumors of Wars
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
Jesus was with God from the beginning of the world...All things have been made through Jesus...And in Him is Light, and this Light gives life to all mankind...The Light shines in darkness and drives out this evilness...There is a dark side in this world, but there is also a goodness in this world...A Light in the world that drives out this darkness...Jesus teaches these things and tells us that He is telling us what He personally has seen in His Father's Presence...And because of this this Light and this Love -They give meaning to this broken world...
Martin Luther King, Jr said that “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”...C. S. Lewis wrote that “If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark...Dark would be without meaning.”...
These are two very intelligent men talking about darkness, good, evil, and meaning of life...There is this Light and darkness in this world, and there is good and there is evil in this world...The Light came to drive out the prince of darkness...The believer believes that this Goodness and LOVE in this world is the Light and it has been with us from the beginning...The non-believer believes that any goodness in the world comes from man...And it has evolved into the goodness we have today...And for man and this evolved goodness to have evolved, then the evil in this world should evolve less and less as man evolves...So the world, if one believes in evolution, would have less evil in it over a period of fifteen billion years, I would think...If one believes in the majesty of man, then evil and this dark side will evolve down as man goes and evolves toward his good side...As the world grows smaller and global travel continues to expand, natural selection would integrate the world entirely...Evolution of man should continue to improve the world's morality and goodness, if one believes in the goodness and evolution of man...Man came from some primitive soup and lived in the sea, and then we involved billions of years later into apes and then into men...And I guess, women evolved in that way too, yet became female apes, and female women as they progressed through the evolutionary processes...Can mankind evolve without goodness and parts of the world that is not moral?...Are there still some men today that think that hate can drive out hate in a neighbor?...Can I make sense of life with one of my grandfathers being an ape, and an another one amphibian?...
But for me, the world seems broken...And it maybe more broken today than it was two thousand years ago, when Jesus walked the earth...After all there are still wars, and civil wars going on today...There are still famines and people going hungry in parts of our world...There are poor homeless people in many places...But the non-believer seems to believe that these things will evolve...They will get better...That Jesus is just a historical side note...Jesus gets in the way of the non-believer, and his thinking...This is because Jesus said there would be wars and rumors of war...Jesus said that we would always have the poor...Jesus challenges all of us and the way we look and our lives and life in terms of wealth, material things, comfort, peace, and even happiness...What we think of as sad, lost, and unfit He sees as found again, reborn, and important...His teachings are of great importance, and we learn about not His teachings, but about Him and His Father...We learn about thoughts we would like to tuck away and hide, He shows us meaning in the down and outcast person, and the import of His teachings in the His stories of the Prodigal Son, the Lost Sheep, the Widow's mite, and the hard working Martha and the listening Mary...
So while the non-believer seems to denounce the possibility of God and His Son, I see meaning...I believe I am a child of God...I see little meaning in my life if I am a child of an ape and amphibian...
