Mark 12:28-34
The Greatest Commandment Is About Love
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.
God has set a high standard for we are to treat others, and this is the case for foreigners...Jesus’ message is to “love your neighbor as yourself” and this means all neighbors in every country...But some may not be aware that Mosaic Law has the same instruction for how to treat foreigners...The command to treat them as “native-born” would have been shocking to people in Moses’ day...
In the Law of Moses we learn we are to help the one's not from our country...Moses Law tells us that the foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born...Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt...Then Moses writes basically this is from our Father and says , I AM the LORD your God...The author of Hebrews says, "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."...This means that people should not show partiality to anyone who is different from them, regardless of skin color or national origin...
Jesus taught us to love others when He teaches us about the Good Samaritan, the Canaanite woman, and when He talks to the Samaritan woman at the well...We learn we are to treat those who society dislikes, loathes, and sometimes despises with love -just as He did...So love your neighbor as yourself...
