Mark 14:60-65
Jesus is the Messiah
60Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" 61But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62"I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
63The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked. 64"You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?"
They all condemned him as worthy of death. 65Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, "Prophesy!" And the guards took him and beat him.
Jesus is the Messiah...Jesus stood before the Sanhedrin, the ruling council of the Jewish community after His arrest...They had gotten witnesses to testify against Him...They ask Him if He was the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One...He answers I AM...
St. Peter earlier in Mark 8:29 tells Jesus, that You are the Christ...At that time Jesus, always working on His time and schedule, told Peter not to tell anyone...In John's gospel in chapter 6:69, Peter again tells Jesus, that we believe and know that You are the Holy One of God...
The Sanhedrin does not believe He is the Messiah...Instead the high priest tears his clothes, believing Jesus is lying and committing blasphemy in shaming God's name...
The guards took and beat Jesus like a common criminal would be beaten...
Jesus is condemned before the Council...But Jesus was not the type of Messiah, His people was looking to come...He was not a prince or a king coming to save His people from the Roman authorities or some other powerful authority...
He was one who came to save us from ourselves, our sins...Jesus wanted us to repent and follow God closely...Who would have ever thought of this???...Most of us do not want to be freed or delivered from ourselves...Most people think things are going along okay (with the context of ourselves)... There are other problems and issues outside of ourselves that need changed, fixed, or corrected...We are okay, it is something else, someone else that needs the fixing or changing...
To be in harmony with life, being freed from the Roman authorities would only be a change in government...To be in the Spirit of God, to do things for the glory of the Father, we must follow the Father's Spirit...Just like the Spirit of God had guided the Prophets who wrote and followed His word...
God knows best...For us to live the lives He wants us to live we have to find Jesus...The closer we are to Jesus, the closer we are to the LORD...No one comes to the Father, except though Him...The closer to Jesus, the freer we are from the stresses, the anger, the repressed anger, the guilt, and the sins of our lives, the troubles of this world...Only Jesus can set us free...
