Mark 14:60-62
Jesus Says He is the Son of the Blessed One
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62 "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
The popularity of Jesus and the number who follow Him is a mystery for many, both in His day and even today...And somehow in His mystery and the mystery that surrounds Him meets the needs of man...He was a Child who is said to be born supernaturally...He is born supernaturally, and yet He is said to be from heaven...Born by a virgin, and yet comes from heaven...A Child from a poor family...A Child of God, a Jew from Israel, born in Bethlehem and who grew up in Nazareth...Raised in the region of Galilee and called a Galilean...
He began His ministry as a Traveling Teacher and Rabbi, probably when He was thirty years old...He was a Charismatic Leader who was always talking and teaching about God...His life was completely centered around God, His Father...A Holy Man who went around from village to village teaching about God and doing miracles...Many of His miracles were healing miracles...He was this Great Physician who could heal any disease, if you just believed in Him...A Traveling Rabbi who could draw large crowds, very large crowds, and would get people’s attention...He could hold people's attention...This Great Teacher winds up going to His third and final Passover in Jerusalem and entering the town very most triumphally...Yet, He dies on a cross because the religious leaders in Israel were not happy with the Way He went about teaching others about God...He taught all about God, and many believe He is the Son of God or God Himself in the flesh...He tells all that would listen to Him that He is the Son of God, the Son of the Blessed One...He seemed to be a threat to their old religious order and their own religious traditions...He says He was One with God...He was better off dead to them than to remain alive and teaching and doing the miracles that He could do...So they hung Him from a cross...And so He dies...And on this cross, He died for the sins of mankind, or at least that is how the mystery goes...
Now strangely enough it is only after His death when Christianity, a new religion would start...He rises from His death and sees five hundred people over a period of forty days, after His death...He teaches His Disciples for this very special forty days and they realize He is Someone very special, who has came back from their own death...He is alive again...He has risen and is teaching His original Disciples...And He has taught them that He truly is the Messiah of the Old Testament prophecies...So then He ascends back into heaven, which is where He came from originally...All this is very mysterious...
Now He has given His Disciples a Great Commission to baptize people in the name of God, Himself, and the Holy Spirit...And they do just that...And the next generation continues their work, and then the next generation would continue His teachings, and His work continues today...So the mystery continues...
