Abu Abdillah, al Imam al Faqeeh Ja'far ibn Muhammad al Sadiq AS al Aalim
1 I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. 2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. 3 I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint. 4 You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. 5 I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;
Al-Hasan b. ‘Ali al-Washsha’ reports that he saw nine-hundred people in the mosque of Kufa transmitting hadiths from Imam al-Sadiq (a).
6 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: 7 “Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? 8 Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? 9 Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
Soon, those who doubt concerning his son, Ja’far will be destroyed. He who rejects him has rejected Me. I speak the truth, I will indeed honor the position of Ja’far and make him happy vis-à-vis his Shias, his helpers and his friends.
10 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. 11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Ja`far the son of Muhammad the veracious, the treasure of knowledge, the caller to You with the truth, and the manifest light. O Allah, as You have made him the core of Your words and revelations, the treasure of Your knowledge, the spokesman of the profession of Your Oneness, the authorized to undertake Your mission, and the keeper of Your religion, so also (please) send blessings upon him with the most excellent blessings that You have ever sent upon any of Your elite people and arguments. Verily, You are full of praise, full or glory.
13 Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. 15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
Dawood Bin Ali Bin Abdullah Bin Al-Abbas, when he killed Al-Moalla Bin Khuneys and seized his wealth, Al-Sadiq-asws said: ‘He killed my friend and seized my-asws wealth. Don’t you know that the man can sleep upon the bereavement and he cannot sleep upon the war? But, by Allah-azwj, I-asws will be supplicating against you!’ Dawood said to him-asws, ‘You-asws are threatening us with your-asws supplication like the one mocking with his words’. So Abu Abdullah returned to his-asws house and did not cease standing the whole night and sitting. Dawood sent five guards to him-asws said, ‘Come to me with him-asws. If he-asws refuses, then come to me with his-asws head!’ Then entered to see him-asws and he-asws was praying Salat. They said to him-asws, ‘Answer Dawood!’ He-asws said: ‘Supposing I-asws don’t answer?’ They said, ‘He has ordered us with an order’. He-asws said, ‘Then leave, for it would be better for you in your world and your Hereafter’. They refused except to bring him-asws out. He-asws raised his-asws hands and placed them upon his-asws shoulders, then spread them, then supplicated with his-asws index finger. We heard him-asws saying: ‘Right now! Right now!’ Until we heard a loud scream. He-asws said to them: ‘You master has died, so leave and ask around’.
16 The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed.
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted [6:103]
17 The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Suleyman Bin Khalid, ‘From Abu Abdullah asws, and with him asws was Abdullah Al-Bajali, and he asws ended up to a collapsed palm tree: ‘O you palm tree, the listing, the good, the obedient to its Lord azwj! Feed us from what Allahazwj has Made to be in you’ He (the narrator) said, ‘Dates of various types fell upon us, and we ate until we were satiated. He said, ‘Among you asws is a Sunnah like the Sunnah of Maryam AS
19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. 20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim from abu ‘Abdallah (a.s) who has said the following. “When myfather was about to leave this world he said, “O Ja‘far, I recommend you to be good to my companions.” I then said, “May Allah take my soul in service for your cause, by Allah, I will educated them as such that in any city where any of them would live he would not need to ask others for knowledge (of religion).”
