Lee Lunch Bunch Met October 26, 2023

LHS ‘65

Our beautiful fall weather brought approximately 40 former Classes of ’64, ’65, and ’66 classmate-friends from our Lee Lunch Bunch group together to visit and enjoy a meal. We had so many show up that we had to get extra tables and chairs added to our meeting area. As always, we enjoyed each other’s company and chatted away as if no time had ever passed, picking up right where we left off the last time we were together.

It’s so good to see all of our faithful locals who come each time, but it is truly amazing to see so many who travel to be together.just for a short lunch gathering. Some came from long distances like Linda Welldon from Hendersonville, NC, Susan Simms from Springfield, VA, Betty Jo Key Scholter from Marietta, GA, Linda Kinkle Cianci from Nashville, TN, and the rest of us from around Huntsville. Our special attendees this time were Tommy and Sue Towery from Memphis, TN. It was so good to see those two. Tommy is the glue that holds us all together and keeps us informed about our fellow classmates every week in The Traveller.

One special highlight was hearing Niles Prestage, LHS '65, share some of the details of his recent trip to Isreal and how he and the group managed to leave when the hostilities began in the Gaza Strip. They were lucky no one in his group were harmed in any way.

Our time together ends very quickly, and we all vow to see each other again at the next gathering. If God wills, we will do just that! For those from our three classes who have not gotten to come to one of our gatherings, please make a special effort to come next spring. We would love to see you. Until then, take care and remember we are the original FAMILEE !!!

I asked the Wayback Machine for a song about friends. Here is the result.

"That's What Friends Are For" is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager.

It was first recorded in 1982 by Rod Stewart for the soundtrack of the film Night Shift, but it is better known for the 1985 cover version by Dionne Warwick. In the United States, the song held the number-one spot on the adult contemporary chart for two weeks, the number-one spot on the soul chart for three weeks, and the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and became Billboard's number-one single of 1986. It was certified Gold on January 15, 1986, by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Outside the United States, the song topped the charts in Canada and Australia and reached the top 10 in Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, and Sweden. On the UK Singles Chart, the song debuted at number 49 and climbed to its peak of number 16 three weeks later, staying at that position for another week before descending the chart. It remained in the UK top 100 for a further five weeks, totaling 10 weeks on the chart altogether.

It was great to be able to attend another Lee Lunch Bunch last week. For those from the Classes of '64,'65, and '66 who have not done so before, please plan to attend the next one. We never know when we will no longer be able to go to events such as this.

For those of you who are retired military, I greatly suggest you try out the new Candlewood Suites on Redstone Arsenal if you need a place to stay. We got a wonderful suite with breakfast included for $100 a night.
