A Brief Recap of Our Reunion Weekend

Tommy Towery

LHS '64

I have just completed the drive from Huntsville back to Memphis and after a long fun-filled reunion weekend and will just give some highlights of the activities and will follow up with some more detailed stories in the weeks to come.

A large group of Lee Alumni gathered on Friday night at the Furniture Factory Bar & Grill for our first get-together as a reunion group. Earlier in the day the Class of '65 had lunch together, but I was still driving toward Huntsville when that took place so I will have to rely on someone who attended that luncheon to send in some details about it.

Through the noise at the Furniture Factory people greeted and swapped stories with each other and enjoyed the food and drinks available. Though it was a much smaller crowd than would attend the reunion on the river, a good time was had by all, and for some attendees, it was their only chance to visit with old friends since they would not be attending the Saturday night event.

The reunion committee assembled at 2:00 pm and began the task of decorating the two pavilions at Ditto Landing and by the scheduled starting time of 4:00 pm had all the tables decorated, chairs positioned and the DJ music in position.

Since I am tired and want to get this finished I am just going to share a few of the photos for now, but as I said, will follow up with more stories in the next few issues. Please feel free to share your own comments if the "This Week's Questions, Answers, Comments" form below.

A good time was had by all.  What else do I need to say?

This Week's Questions, Answers, Comments

Bucky, LHS ' 66, & Susie Hoffmeyer, "We would like to thank all our fellow reunion committee members for all their hard work! We pulled it off and We're privileged to work with such a great group of folks! Look forward to the next reunion! Wishing everyone the best!"

Ann Wilson Redford, LHS '65, "The reunion could not have been any better!!  Seemed everyone had a great time. Regretted that there were so many who could not attend since they missed a very enjoyable evening (that includes you J.R. & Kakki and Carol & Lloyd)! Our concern about hot weather was unfounded as it was a beautiful evening with the TN River & Whitesburg Bridge as our backdrop. I did have to wonder, Bucky, if you felt the same about the mild temperatures when I observed your sweating face! Your better half worked as hard as anyone, BTW! The food was good and more than enough.  The two young men who served the BBQ were so polite and helpful as were the Forever Grateful folks...was it the owner who was quite entertaining with her dance moves?  She was fun to watch!  Alice & Andrea's daughters did a great job working the golf cart.  Andrea, thank your daughter for guiding me back to the Parkway in the pitch dark!  Tommy, I have to tell you that I felt more than a little sadness when you played Auld Lang Syne! I hope we have the opportunity to do this again!"

John and Esther Hudgens, LHS '66, "I have no way to contact all you committee members, but if you're able to share, please do so on our behalf. What a successful event you all orchestrated last night! The venue and food were absolutely awesome. No doubt a lot of planning and work on the part of this committee. Hats off to all of yas for a job well done!"

A Song to Remember Our Reunion

"Auld Lang Syne"

The Classmates who left the reunion early missed out on one of the most touching moments of the reunion. For the last song of the evening, the remaining classmates gathered in a group-hug and swayed to this music as they sang along with this song. Since I was a part of the group I did not get a photo of them, but several others did and I wish one of you would share their photo with me. It was a tribute to those of our classmates who are no longer with us and a promise to never forget their memories. They will always be a part of our past and will always remain dear to our hearts. As you listen take a few moments to recall the names and faces of those who were dear and near to you but have now passed away.
