Frederick Miles Ramsey

LHS '66

1946 (?) - September 22, 2019

Frederick Miles Ramsey, age 73, beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend went to his Glory, Sunday, September 22, 2019.

Miles leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Maria; his sons, Christian of Long Beach, CA and David of Fort Worth, TX; his beloved sister Judy (Don) Holder of Huntsville, AL; and many loving nephews and nieces; grand nieces, grand nephews; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous friends who will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his son Michael, and his parents, Ruth and Lee Ramsey.

Miles was born in Newport News, VA and was raised in Huntsville, AL. He was an accomplished salesman of automobiles, jewelry and home appliances. He was well respected by his coworkers and will be missed.

Miles graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville, AL and attended the University of AL Extension. He played football, starting with Pee Wee, in middle school and varsity in high school. He loved golf and football and was an avid Alabama football fan. Roll Tide! He moved to California where he met his beautiful wife, Maria, and then was transferred to Houston, TX where they resided for 43 years moving to Racine in 2017. Miles was a member of Holy Family Church in Missouri City, TX for 40 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was currently a member of St. Richard’s Parish in Racine.

Miles was a people person and never met a stranger who didn’t quickly become a friend. He loved all people and made it his mission to tell them that God loved them even doing that in the last few minutes before his death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Avenue, Wednesday, October 2, 2019, 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the Mass 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Assn, Parkinson’s Foundation or the Wisconsin Humane Society have been suggested.

Memphis, TN -  Last Monday night “Bluff City Law” premiered on NBC. This was the pilot for the series and even though I had worked one day as background talent I never expected to even show up on the screen. I was shocked when I not only showed up, I was actually visible for over eight seconds as I walked across the street behind Jimmy Smits and Caitlin McGee as they were standing in front of the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.

Even though I was on the screen, I could not be recognized, but instead continued my role as a “blur” in the background.  The scene was shot back in March and I had been selected as a pedestrian with car, but I was used just as a pedestrian. (Don’t worry; I was still paid $20 extra for my car.) The crew loaded us on a bus and took us to the Lorraine Motel and we were stationed in various positions for the shoot. When “background” was called, we all went into motion as the camera’s rolled. We “reset” about 10 times and did the scene over and over until the director was sure he had a good shoot.

Actually, showing up surprised me after having worked four days on “Brian Banks” and not showing up at all in the final product.

On Monday, September 30, the “You Don’t Need a Weatherman” episode will air and there is a good possibility I will be in the scene where Jimmy Smits and another lawyer actor comes into a library where a judge is just starting to eat his lunch and wants to talk to him. I was placed on the sofa in front of the judge and told to read a newspaper while all this is happening. I also walk down the courthouse steps in one scene and follow Caitlin out the door and down the hall inside the courthouse. Whether or not any of the scenes actually were used is in the hands of the director.

If your cable lets you have NBC on demand you can watch the reruns of the shows there.

CUT – WRAP!

Last Week's Name That Tune

Linda Collinsworth Provost, LHS '66, "T. Tommy, I see that you have decided to ignore the 5 limit song rule.  LOL! That's OK but just know that it really fries my brain.  I have guesses for all but the last song this week."

(Editor's Note: You are right (as usual) Linda, I did ignore the five song rule this week just because I wanted to get as many counting songs in as I could think of. You did very well, with the most correct answers this week.)

Jeffrey Fussell, LHS '66, "Songs 7 and 8 stumped me, but “1, 2, 3” (as well as 4-5-6) were five by five.“ Rock Around the Clock” is a Bill Haley and the Comets trademark. However the flip side of that Decca 45 was a catchy tune called “13 Women” that we still play today. The angular guitar riffs over the standard rock ’n’ roll rhythm was way ahead of its time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxz7-O0xwNA

Seems like I stumped the band with Number 8 - The missing song: Quarter to Three by Gary U.S. Bonds

This Week's Name That Tune

Okay Classmates, you'll get a feather in your cap if you can name these five songs from their introductions.

 Save The Date!

Thursday, October 31, 2019  -  11:00 a.m.

Logan’s Restaurant

Balmoral Drive    Huntsville, AL

Hi Lee Lunch Bunch friends. Please remember to save the date for our fall gathering. The last Thursday of October falls on October 31 this year. Yes, that is also Halloween, and if you want to come to lunch dressed in a costume, just knock yourself out and do so!

We are so lucky to be going back to Logan’s, our old favorite place, and we will have plenty of room in the fireplace room to roam around and visit. As many of you remember, we were a bit confined at our last lunch back in April when we went to Gibson’s. Good food, but not enough space. So, we will be happy to hear from you as soon as you can let us know that you will be here.

I will have to miss this time, for the first time ever, due to a trip that cannot be changed, but my very capable co-host, Judy Fedrowisch Kincaid, will be very happy to take your RSVP. Please put the date on your calendar and do let her know as soon as possible if you plan to come.

Thanks and I hope you all have a really great time.

A sweet friend and one of our former classmates, Judy Beason Jennings (Randy) LHS ’65, had a serious accident a couple of days ago. She fell backwards on some steps at her home in Corinth, MS. Judy suffered a traumatic brain injury, and she is in serious condition at a hospital in Tupelo, MS. Her surgery was successful, and she is able to move her hand and  fingers some on command, but she is still on the ventilator, not awake, and in very serious condition.

Please let all of our LHS friends know about this, and please ask them to all keep her in prayer. If possible, hope The Traveller goes out tonight, and everyone can ask their church groups to keep her in prayer as well.

I just spoke with her daughter, Jennifer, and she thanks everyone in advance for the wonderful and necessary prayers to help Judy get through this traumatic accident. She will definitely keep posting on FB too so everyone can keep up with Judy’s progress.

    Thank you.
