Lee Lunch Bunch (LLB) Finally Meets Again

Patsy Hughes Oldroyd

LHS ‘65

The Lee Lunch Bunch friends from the classes of ’64, ’65, and ’66, met for a time of eating lunch together and catching up on what has been happening in each other’s lives these last couple of years. Covid robbed us of having our twice yearly gatherings for these last two years so we all had lots to talk about with each other.

There were approximately 30+ of us present including our favorite member and former teacher, Ms. Sue Faulkner. Also, our member who always travels the farthest to have lunch and visit was Linda Weldon, Class of ’65, from Hendersonville, NC.

JR Brooks, LHS ’64, and Niles Prestage, LHS’65, spoke briefly about the possibility of an upcoming reunion for our classes suggesting that the members of our three classes consider what they want for this reunion in terms of location, entertainment or not, allowing another class to participate or not, etc. All were encouraged to make their wishes known soon.

All who could not make it to this lunch due to previous plans, family graduations, illnesses, etc. were missed very much. We have several members who have had serious illnesses and the loss of family members, and we ask for your prayers for those dear friends.

Hope to see you all again this fall for the next LLB.

We all need to thank Patsy Hughes Oldroyd, LHS '65, for her continued efforts in organizing the Lee Lunch Bunch get-togethers. We have all missed them I am sure during the periods they were not held during the Covid-19 pandemic. I fear we all do not comprehend the amount of effort and organization going into planning these events. I know I personally have taken way too much for granted for the work Patsy puts in. There is a strong possibility the Lee Lunch Bunch events will outlive the reunions and may be the last efforts to get our classes together as a group, so I hope they will continue well into the future.

I have it on good word strong efforts are underway to finalize plans for a reunion later this year. Unlike our reunions in the past, this one will be less formal and still offer participants the opportunity to enjoy getting back together with their former classmates. More information will follow as the plans become more formal.

Photographic Memories - Who Are They?

Each week I plan to share a group of photos from the 1960 "The General" yearbook without disclosing the names of the individuals. You may stop and try to identify them here, and when you are through you may scroll to the bottom of this page to see the identities of your classmates in the photos.

Graduation Day - The Beach Boys

It seems a little ironic that The Beach Boys released this song in 1964, 58 years ago, the year of the first graduating class of Lee High School. With many of us who have grandchildren graduating this year, I think it is an appropriate song to listen to once again.

"Graduation Day" is a song composed by Joe Sherman with lyrics by his brother Noel Sherman, and was a 1956 hit song by the Four Freshmen. The song was a concert staple of the Beach Boys, who were deeply influenced by the Four Freshmen. A recording of it was featured on the live album Beach Boys Concert (1964).
