Keep On Dancing

Tommy Towery

LHS '64

Even though there were few comments to last week's video on the dances we did in the Sixties, I am going to continue to feature them. I know some of you really enjoyed those days, but may not want to comment on them. (We call you guys "Lurkers" in the web world.) If you look up lurker in the online dictionary you will find the definition is "Chiefly Computers. to read or observe an ongoing discussion without participating in it, as on a message board." That's okay though, because I know some people had rather not share too much about themselves - except on Facebook.

This week I feature "The Stroll." Even though it was popular in 1958, it was still hanging around in the Sixties when I learned to dance. I always thought it was a fun dance and a whole lot of people got to participate at the same time. This was a safe dance for us back then before we got to the stage where our bodies were actually touching each other.

How do you like those outfits?

I'll ask if any of you have any memories of doing this dance, and we will see if anyone rises to the occasion.

Memphis, TN - If you are a basketball fan, then this is your season. Personally, I've been watching games all week, and my bracket is down the tubes. Seems a lot of lesser known schools have a lot of fight in them. I love this time of year, even though my teams are not playing.

 Lee Lunch Bunch Scheduled

28 April, 2016

LHS ’65

It is still over a month away, but it is not too early for everyone to save the date for our next Lee Lunch Bunch. Please mark your calendars for the last Thursday of April, and do plan to join us. We have not met since right before our big 50th reunion, so we have a lot of catching up to do. Also, it will be a good time for many of the '66 bunch to touch base about their upcoming 50th celebration. As always, please let me know if you plan to come so we can give Logan’s an accurate number. They do require this in order to let us keep reserving the nice fireplace room at their restaurant.

Thanks a bunch and hope to see you there,

Patsy Hughes Oldroyd ’65

The Virtual Jukebox

This Week's Selection by Tommy Towery

LHS '64

This week I'll drop a dime in the virtual jukebox and play a single song for you. This hit by James Brown was always one of my favorite slow songs to dance to and I still get a smile on my face when I hear it. It was a real nice way to get to hold a girl in my arms and move to the music.

This is another one of those songs I want you to close your eyes and let your thoughts take you back to those days. Do you remember it?

Watching the video demo of all those great dances brought back quite a few memories for me. But the most precious one was of my grandpa dancing the Monkey with my friend Anne and myself in the barn. I would spend summers with my grandparents on the farm in Loysville, PA and dancing with grandpa and the cows is a memory I won’t soon forget.
