8. Driving up to Monte Sano at night and parking on one of the pull-offs, and just looking out over the city lights of Huntsville. And sometimes with a date!

The Wayback Machine

This week I once again took control of The Wayback Machine to get a song that matches the theme of the last couple of issues. This is another song that was not released while we were at Lee, but it is befitting our age today.

"Moments to Remember" is a 1955 popular song about nostalgia recorded by the Canadian quartet The Four Lads.

The Four Lads recorded it in June 1955 for Columbia Records as the B side to the single "Dream On, My Love." Bernie Toorish of the Four Lads credited the enthusiastic endorsement of Cleveland radio DJ Bill Randle for increasing radio airtime play and popularizing the recording. It eventually reached number 2 on Billboard magazine's Top 100 hit list (an early version of the Hot 100), sold 4 million copies, and became the group's first gold record.

Besides the voices of the male quartet, the song also contains two uncredited female parts. According to the Four Lads' Frank Busseri, the introductory verse, ("January through December/We'll have moments to remember"), as well as the repeat of the Bridge section in harmony, ("When summer turns to winter",) were sung by Lois Winters of the Ray Charles Singers and the poetic spoken words in mid-song: ("A drive-in movie/Where we'd go/And somehow never watched the show/") was recited by Pat Kirby who at that time was a singer on Steve Allen's television show Tonight!

This week I want to thank Craig Bannecke, LHS '65 for his continued support of Lee's Traveller by submitting items which other classmates can respond to. He is one of my top submitters.

I want to try to get more classmates involved in the memories by asking a simple question. Please feel free to use the form below to reply to my request. It is a simple question all of you should be able to answer.

I am asking you to fill out the form below and share with all of us: "What was your favorite class during your years at Lee, and why?" If a teacher was part of the reason please expand on why.

Use the COMMENTS section of the form below to share your thoughts.

LEE LUNCH BUNCH

FOR THE CLASSES OF  ’64, ’65, ‘66

CARRABBA’S ITALIAN GRILL

 Thursday, October 26, 2023

11:00 AM

Please save the date for our group’s fall lunch gathering. We will once again meet at Carrabba’s Italian Grill located on the upper parking level of Parkway Place Mall in Huntsville. We have a reserved area that will accommodate our group. I received many compliments this past spring about us meeting there since there is no charge for the space, the food is good, and they are so very nice to us. Carolyn Burgess Featheringill ’65,  arranged for our class of ’65 to meet there at least the last couple of reunion weekends, and everyone seemed to enjoy those times as well. Perhaps I will be able to find us a new place to try for next spring.

October is a great time for fall road trips, so if you do get out on the road, make Huntsville one of your stops to join your group for lunch.

Please do let me know at least by the morning of the day before if you plan to come so I can tell the restaurant a fairly accurate count.

Thanks and hope to see you soon!
