Friends on the Menu

Sarajane Steigerwald Tarter

LHS '65

I've had the best time recently getting together with wonderful people in our FamiLEE.

Niles and I (Pictured above) celebrated his 70th birthday with a good meal and much conversation. He will be the same nice guy when he's 100.

Gudrun, Rainer and I had lunch together to get caught up on our current events. Then, the Klauss duo entertained me with wonderful stories and history of themselves and their families. What a treat for me!

Ann Wilson Redford and I ate at The Botanical Gatdens restaurant and then walked the scarecrow path. We talked about this and that but mostly about the 'younguns' in our lives and how they keep us feeling young.

I also got to spend two glorious weeks with Pam Goatley deLuca while we ate, drank, and laughed our way around South Africa. Every day was better than the day before and we started our trip going on a safari and seeing wildlife galore.

Next week I will be eating (AGAIN!) At our Lee Lunch Bunch that Patsy Hughes Oldroy organizes for us. So, fellow FamiLEE classmates when I roll in the door know that every pound gained was well worth it.

LEE LUNCH BUNCH

11:00 a.m.

WE HAVE MOVED!

GALEN’S RESTAURANT (Formerly Mullin’s)

607 Jackson Way

Huntsville, AL 35801

As we approach the eighth year for Lee Lunch Bunch (’64,’65,’66), it seems to be a good time for us to try a new location. We have all enjoyed these last seven years meeting at Logan’s Restaurant, and they have been very nice and accommodating. Perhaps we may go back there at some point, but for now, we are going to meet and hopefully enjoy a favorite old hangout for many of us.  I hope that you will save the date for Thursday, October 26, 2017, and let’s all meet at Galen’s.

Galen’s has owned and operated a successful restaurant in the New Hope area for several years.  In June they opened a second location in Huntsville in the former Mullin’s location.  They are open for breakfast and lunch (until 2:00 PM) for now, but they do have plans to stay open for dinner in the near future.  Galen’s features a traditional meat and vegetable plate lunch with many side items to choose from.  They also have other

items on their extensive menu such as burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc.  Also, deserts!  There will certainly be something on the menu that will appeal to everyone.  Google Galen’s Restaurant and take a peek at their pictures and their menu.

We must let Galen’s know by the day before how many plan to be there so they can arrange tables and have enough chairs ready.  Please contact either Judy Fedrowich Kincaid or me by that date if you plan to join us.   Hoping to see many of you there.

Thanks a Bunch!

Memphis, TN - Looks like cool weather is finally starting. Thanks to several of you I have a small backlog of stories to take the pressure off of me to have to come up with something each week. But please, don't let that thought keep you from sending in your own stories to share.

I hate that I will not be able to attend the Lee Lunch Bunch this time, but I hope as many of you as can will make it. These are always a great get together.

Please Mr. Postman

Your reporting on perfumes and colognes popular during our time at Lee High School certainly generated a lot of responses. Based on a comment I received from friend Niles Prestige I was moved to do something that I may regret however.

As you may recall, I had purchased a bottle of BRUT after shave at the local Publix and a photo of that bottle was published in the Traveller.  Little did I know that Niles, or more specifically Niles’ wife, was a big fan of Brut.

Based on the Prestige family’s personal fondness for the scent of BRUT, I mailed Niles a bottle today and he should be receiving it at the end of this week.  I know Niles to be a staunch member of the Huntsville community but he may just go over the edge with unbridled enthusiasm when he opens that plain, brown paper wrapped package containing the BRUT.  If anyone in Madison County is suddenly overcome with an intoxicating scent that takes them back to the wonder years of the early 60’s, just be warned that it’s just Niles.

Skip,

Pardon my slow return of your “warning” e-mail sent a couple of days ago. I have been on the road this week and I am playing catch up.

And thank you, I did receive your  package  today wrapped in its plain brown paper. Took me back for a second when the USPS man walked in with it. He looked at me as if I were receiving something ordered off the “dark web”, but I shrugged and gave him a “who knew” look.

Don’t have many friends that would pay $3.64 in postage to ship something that cost $2.99, so I was relieved to see that it was indeed my BRUT from my old friend Skip, shipped all the way from Tallahassee. And yes, Skip, Judy my bride of 47 plus years still likes the smell of my old favorite BRUT, so she also sends her thanks for your thoughtful gift. In fact, you may have sent me a lifetime supply because one bottle lasts quite a long time! Again, many thanks!

    Niles
