Transmission lines perform two major functions in the transmission of electric power they carry high-voltage electricity from switchyards to substations, and they link the switchyards to power grids. The transmission lines carry power at the highest voltage over the longest distances. This is done to reduce technical losses in the journey of electricity from where it is produced to where it is used by consumers.
