FACILITATOR BIO

Paola Linares, born in Lima-Perú, and came to USA 19 years ago following her calling and her family who had been migrating to this country for more than 30 years. In Perú she went to San Antonio de Padua elementary and High School and to Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia for her college Biology degree.

Her love for teaching kids grew when she started working as a babysitter with a family in Livingston and after her kids were born, she got a training to become a Yoga teacher for kids and later for adults, which led her to reach and teach more kids in West Orange, Montclair and Newark, for the after-school programs where she taught yoga classes in Spanish and English.

As a mom, she always wanted her kids to not just speak Spanish but also to learn how to read and write it. Homeschooling her kids gave her the opportunity to use the Coquito’s method, created by Don Everaldo Zavala Santillana; a method that is still used in Perú focusing in the learning Spanish by syllables that helps the kids to recognize, engage and learn Spanish in a fun and simple way. This educational approach has been used for more than 60 years and gave Don Everaldo the honor of naming a school in his name at his birth Province of Arequipa. He is still a big presence in Peruvian school curriculums.

Paola, using this method, creates and includes: no competitive games, book reading time and helping the kids to use their senses to learn and engage with the Spanish language in a fun and organic way. Paola is teaching Homeschooled, Unschooled, and after-school kids from 6 to tweens /teens and also adults using the same method but including a more deep approach, including learning songs of different genre from the Latin community and book’s paragraphs from different recognized and beloved authors of the rich Latin America Literature.
