Inversion
catch-phrase: What they call unnaturalâŚis simply what they fear to understand
catch-phrase: What they call unnaturalâŚis simply what they fear to understand
Inversion was born in 1924 in California, one of the earliest known cases of the mysterious âpower birthsâ that began appearing around 1920. From the moment he was born, something about him defied the natural orderâhis abilities werenât learned or granted; they were intrinsic, woven into his existence.
Despite this, his childhood was anything but extraordinary in the eyes of the world. He was raised in a strict, traditional household during a time when conformity was survival. His parents, like much of society, held rigid beliefs about morality, identity, and ânormalcy.â From an early age, Inversion understood that parts of himselfâespecially his attraction to other boysâhad to remain hidden.
School became his first battleground. Naturally left-handed, he was forced by teachers to write with his right, as left-handedness was seen as improperâeven âevil.â That constant correction taught him a painful lesson: the world did not accept what deviated from its expectations. Still, he endured, becoming a disciplined and observant young man, quietly learning how harsh society could be toward those who were different.
Everything changed in high school. After being caught kissing another boy, the incident was reported to his parents. Their reaction was immediate and unforgivingâhe was disowned and cast out. Alone, still a teenager, and in the lingering hardship of the Great Depression, he was forced to survive on his own.
Rather than breaking him, the experience forged him.
In 1941, with the world on the brink of global war and injustice everywhere, he chose to become something more. Taking the name Inversion, he embraced everything society rejected about himâturning shame into strength, rejection into identity. He became a hero not just to fight crime, but to stand as a contradiction to the worldâs hatred.
Throughout his career, Inversion faced relentless discriminationânot just from civilians, but even from those he protected. Yet he persisted. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, he stood alongside Black communities, recognizing the shared struggle against systemic hatred and violence. His presence was controversial, but unwavering.
He later played a quiet but meaningful role during the Stonewall Riots, helping protect vulnerable civilians and ensuring that what could have been total devastation instead became a turning point of resistance.
In 1973, he finally met a rising young hero he had been hearing aboutâGayifier. Though they rarely met outside of missions, the two developed a strong mutual respect, forming a bond between generations of heroes fighting for the same cause.
đ§ PERSONALITY
Inversion is defined by restraint, discipline, and emotional control. He is stern, often serious, and rarely indulges in humor. The hardships of his youthâand particularly the brutality he witnessed during his early years surviving aloneâleft a permanent mark on him.
However, beneath that hardened exterior lies deep empathy. He understands suffering intimately and has a quiet, unwavering compassion for those who feel marginalized or alone. He comforts with presence, action, and protection.
He values dignity above all else, both in himself and in others. To him, being a hero isnât about recognitionâitâs about endurance.

đ RELATIONSHIP STATUS
In a committed relationship with Daniel Marsh, a historian he met at a gay bar in 1998.
Daniel initially knew nothing of Inversionâs identity. When Inversion eventually revealed the truth, it didnât fracture their relationshipâit deepened it. Daniel became one of the few people Inversion fully trusts, offering him something he never had growing up: unconditional acceptance.
đłâđ Sexuality: Gay
Inversion retired in 2008, stepping away from active hero work with a sense of fulfillment. He had lived long enough to see meaningful changeâgreater acceptance, visibility, and protection for the LGBTQ+ community.
Today, he lives a quieter life, occasionally acting as a mentor to younger heroes. Though no longer on the front lines, his legacy endures as one of the earliest and most resilient symbols of resistance, identity, and strength.
