A group of ISY participants and staff went to the New York State's Capitol building to campaign for summer jobs. This event was organized by non-profit organization called United Neighborhood Houses and with the help of many programs, this event was made possible. This year, we asked for 3000 new summer jobs throughout New York State. This equaled to an addition 4 million dollars. At this event, participants listened to inspirational speeches from politicians and other participants. Also, we chanted catchy slogans and spoke with many assembly members or senators. Youth Action day helped show that even though we are teenagers our voices can and will be heard.
The purpose of YAD was to campaign for summer jobs. Events like this will give more opportunities to teens in New York.

ISY participants Andy Ho, Dayton Cheah, and Julie Ye had the opportunity to meet Senator Leroy Comrie and propose the idea of increasing the Summer Youth Employment Program's Budget (SYEP). They told the senator of their past SYEP experiences and how SYEP has positively influenced their lives. Also, they even got to take photos with the senator, who had a professional photographer come in!
