Many Seniors were ecstatic to see Alexander Ma, former Career & Education Counselor came back to ISY as a guest speaker. Alex, Admission Recruitment Advisor for SUNY gave participants admission insight on the numerous SUNY schools.
ISY participants and staff stood in front of Trump Tower to protest against Trump's decision to terminate the Dreamer Act. At the rally, participants had the opportunity to hear and witness many successful stories of immigrants who benefited from DACA.
November
A representative from Project Gateway provide step by step process and tips to ISY participants on how to apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Project Gateway and University at Buffalo came together for a second Instant Decision Day at the CPC Queens Community Center on Thursday, November 30th, 2017. This collaboration brought CPC participants from all boroughs to Flushing, Queens. This gave participants a great opportunity to speak with admission counselors from the University of Buffalo.

In a Life Skills workshop, ISY participants made summer rolls using rice paper, shrimp, mint, chicken, lettuce, and other fresh ingredients. Who knew eating healthy can be as easy as 123!
What better way to get into the Holiday Spirit than decorating our classroom. In this picture, Yuxi Chen and Jason Chen, both Juniors, took upon themselves to draw on the white board.
In the light of College Winter Break, staff invited CPC alumni back to ISY through a series of College Panel. College Panelists not only gave insightful advice to current juniors and seniors on College application process, academic and residential life but also their personal college experiences.
January
A neurologist from Cornell University had the chance to come in and explain to ISY members what it was like studying in the medical field. Also, he even had time to explain neurology briefly and why he chose this career path.
To start off the New Year at ISY, we elected our youth council members for the 2017-2018 school year! Here candidates presented what they offer and why they should be an executive member of our very own Youth Council!
The Law and Criminal workshop was a great opportunity for the ISY members to learn more about how the laws of our country works. These workshops were informative and covered many topics ranging from hate crime laws to assault and battery laws to domestic violence. It was also a great opportunity to meet Assistant District Attorney Shea Donato and Hana Yu, and ask them questions regarding the law.
February
The CEO, Assistant Vice President, and Chief Risk Officer of First American International Bank came to ISY to conduct a mock interview with a handful of ISY participants. Each participant gave their best effort during the mock interview, and was given constructive feedback for future interviews. Feel free to look at what Simon, ISY's Education and Career Specialist, has to say about this event.
Quest Bridge Finalist and ISY participant, Karen Li explained to ISY members the process of becoming a Quest Bridge Scholar. She explained her experience throughout the Quest Bridge process and how she was able to get matched with one of the schools partnered with Quest Bridge (Yale). She motivated and insisted all ISY members to apply for Quest Bridge before the deadline on March 21st!
March
ISY held a workshop informing participants about what is the National School walkout and what it stands for. Also, participants had the opportunity to share their opinion on the National School walkout.
A group of ISY participants, CPC staff, and volunteers attended the March for our lives. In this march, people walked in support of tighter gun regulation.
April
We're back, and we definitely made people feel better. A group of ISY participants decided to allocate their time in bettering the community. This group of students help with setting up the soup kitchen and preparing the ingredients for the food. From this event, the volunteer were able to learn kitchen skills like cutting with a knife and communication skills, for they must communicate effectively to keep the soup kitchen in an orderly manner.
It saddens us to have Wendy leave CPC. For over two years, she volunteered many Wednesdays to teach us work and life skill. We can not be more thankful for the knowledge she supplied us with. We hope for the best that she prosper at her new job.

In preparation for the Aids Walk, participants gathered at Project Reach headquarters to design shirts for the walk. Everyone exercise their artistic skills as they decorate a blank white t-shirt with specials markers.
June
In appreciation of our youth, who volunteered at the CPC annual Gala, Sujin, Brooklyn's Branch Educational specialist, organized a small party. Comfort food like Mac and cheese and spare ribs were served. For many, this was their first time eating comfort food. The food is nice, the people are nice, and everything felt right. This is another example of CPC giving back to its youth, and once again, it was fantastically planned.
