Isaiah 9:1-7
To Us a Child Is Born
1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan-
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as men rejoice
when dividing the plunder.
4 For as in the day of Midian's defeat,
you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.
5 Every warrior's boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this.
For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders...And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace...He will reign over David's Kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever...The zeal of the Almighty will accomplish this...
Isaiah wrote this hundred of years before His birth...He writes about Jesus and His Kingdom...His Kingdom is the Christian Community... Those that believe in King David and those who believe that Scripture tells us that One would rise and become the Prince of Peace...If we believe will be a member of His Kingdom...God had promised King to David that Israel would be ruled by one of His offspring...This One's throne and Kingdom would be established forever...God says I will be His Father and He will be my Son (2 Samuel 11-16)...
God sends Jesus to be with us...He really does not change man, in the sense that He changes our minds and us so we don't or ever sin (again)...He could have...Life on earth would have been much better, had He just taken sin from us...He could have taken away evil and satan...What He did do, was come and live among us...He left us our free choice, and just as we were in the sense that we are the ones who must first believe in Him, before any change can or will be made...When He was on earth He gave us great teachings and life goals...He forgives sins, He has lived forever, He will judge the world, at the end of days, and by His death He saves us from our sins...
Jesus is still with David, when Samuel wrote the two Books of Samuel's...Many, many years later Jesus is still over David's Kingdom from that time (David's time) and forever...
Love to be love, allows unfettered choice for us...Love is not self-seeking...True love allows us to fall, to fail, it allows space for for us...Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:5,6)...Jesus is the truth...When we love someone, we realize that we cannot inundate them with our likes, beliefs, and things that we want to do...God knows all things...He does not smother us with His attributes...We would be better, smarter, and closer to the truth if He did...But that is not love...
He was born for and to us...We need Him...We can live as we were before He came, or we can change, be reborn...He gives us this choice...This choice is we believe in Him or we don't...This choice and this change is our faith...Our sins is what sent Him to the cross...From the fullness of His grace and passion is what saves us...
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us...We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14)...
