Luke 23:20-25
Crucify Him, Crucify Him
20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"
22 For the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him."
23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
John 17:3
Now This is Eternal Life
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Isaiah 55:8
God's Thoughts are Not Man's Thoughts and God's Ways are Not Man's Ways
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
Jesus and what He taught was counter to the culture He lived in...Many of His teachings are a paradox...And He lived in Israel and was a Jew...So one might think that Israel would be receptive to God and His Son teaching about that...We might think that those around hearing His teachings might listen to God’s Son...But that was not meant to be...No, we hung Him from a cross and tortuously had Him killed...And we did not know all the while, that while we hung Him from that cross and He did die, that He was there dying for our personal sins...It was our sins that put Him on the cross, but who knew at the time as He hung dying from the cross...
So there is great irony in the crowds yelling crucify Him, crucify Him –while all the while He was saving the crowd and all those around Him, including mankind...And giving eternal life to all those who believed in Him and His Father...
God could have saved His Son from this death, and saved Him from being tortured on the cross...We really can see that God think's much differently than we do...
