CHARACTER CREATION
CHARACTER CREATION
Important Terms:
Aspect: A Pokémon Aspect is what Pokemon attributes on a Person are labeled as in-universe. Example: Someone with a Fletchinder Aspect might sport Fletchinder wings and tail feathers, and some scaley hands. These people are called “gijinka” in meta-context.
Gijinka: A gijinka is a "humanization" of an animal/animalistic creature or inanimate object. In our group, a gijinka is defined as a human with Pokémon attributes. These can be either physical or mental, such as a Vulpix gijinka having the ears & tails of a Vulpix or a Klefki gijinka’s compulsive habit of stealing keys.
Please make sure you keep your apps hosted somewhere mods and players can access! Without an approved app your character might be subject to removal! To check if your app is accessible, just go to the specific character's tab in your inventory and click their name!
Characters are not permitted to have Aspect characteristics mixed in from a parents' Aspects. (Human characteristics like hair color, hair texture, freckles, and skin tone are allowed.)
Pokemon Aspect traits manifest in characters in Harvest Lunatone anytime from birth to 12 years old. They'll always have their Aspect by that point, no later
Characters must be eighteen or older.
No Legendaries!
Mega, GMax, Paradox and Ultra Beast Aspects require a special item.
No Shinies (Shininess will be granted through a Blessed Shiny Crystal.)
Characters are allowed to enter as an evolved form, but characters must start with a base-stage Aspect. Your PC can enter the group with a Charmeleon or a Nidoqueen Aspect, but your character cannot have been born an evolved form. Once entered, further evolutions for your character must be earned via Stones or a Rare Candy.
Characters can only change their Aspect (outside of evolution. For example: Going from a Pikachu to a Charizard) if they meet with the Cirque, you are allowed to have this be part of the backstory.
Another exeption to the rule is that due to external factors (Sickness, Stress, Hormonal Shenanigans etc.) a Person can change Regional Forms (example: Changing from Johto Sniesel to Hisui Sniesel due to prolonged sickness). Once accepted into the group regional form changes need to be earned via items.
While Pokémon come in all shapes and sizes, we ask for characters to be kept between 4 ft and 6 ft 11 in. Keep in mind that if you character is 4'10" or shorter, they are legally considered a dwarf, or likely suffered from malnutrition growing up. Please keep this in mind, and draw them accordingly and respectfully.
Merfolk characters are one of the two exceptions to the height maximum and may grow as long as 8 ft in length, however we ask that they not be more than 2 feet longer in mer-form than when they have legs on land.
Awakened characters are the other exception to the height maximum and may grow as tall as 8 ft. They can also grow as small as 4 feet without any health concerns (whether this is 4 feet with regular human proportions to head/hands/feet and such OR essentially shrunken down to 4 feet is up to you).
Your character should be a Pokémon gijinka (at least 75% human, 25% Pokémon )
You are allowed special markings (such as scars, freckles, non-canon eye colors) to make your character unique. However, please don’t go overboard.
Aspect Pokemon can be depicted as any of the color variations present in any of the OFFICIAL games (except the Sprites of the first and second generation of games due to the hardware limitations, you are allowed to base it off of official artwork, but not the sprites), this includes mainline games as well as spin offs like Pokemon Stadium. This also counts for their shiny counterparts. In short, If you do not like the green of Shiny Espeon in newer generations, you can also base YOUR shiny Espeon off of the minty green of Pokemon Stadium 2's. Due to the sheer amount of extreme color variants in Pokemon Stadium, the mod team will judge proposed colors on an individual basis. Please send the team a note if you plan to use Pokemon Stadium color variations!
Your character cannot have extra features or limbs (ex: human arms and Pokemon arms, human ears and Pokemon ears) when the Pokemon does not have an extra pair of the feature/limb you would like to duplicate!
You can give your character small floating details for free, given the Pokemon has it (floating wings, Probopass noses, beads etc.). However for floating human body parts, an Awakening Orb is needed! Again, given the Pokemon has such traits (like Blacephalon or Iron Hands).
Dead Ghosts are allowed small floating traits for free (floating head and a lack of a neck. Floating fingers, no elbows OR knees) but for anything more (like entirely missing upper arms) an Awakening Orb is needed as well.
You are allowed to get creative with where and how you place Pokemon traits, as long as they do not give your character abilities their Pokemon counterpart hasn't, like being able to fly. Examples: Dragonair Ears as tiny wings, Deino fur as hair tuft wings, Chandelure arms as wings and/or tail, Poliwag tail as ears, Lumineon fins as ears.
Your character is allowed up to 4 arms max. (provided the Pokemon has one or many additional pairs)
Your character should have a fairly natural skin tone.
You may not give your character Pokémon legs, arms or noses*.
Members cannot apply with two characters at once, or with two characters on one sheet.
If you wish, you can join with a friend or make an NPC for the second character of a pair, like a twin. Please understand, however, NPCs cannot be treated as additional full characters until an additional character slot is purchased and they are submitted as such.
Your character cannot be familially related to the Harvest God/dess, Lillith the witch, or any other Official Raccolto Island NPC in any way. They may, however, know about them!
Your character may not use real magic beyond their Pokemon moves. Only the gods and Lillith are allowed to use actual magic.
Your character may not be from an Alternate Universe, and may not be ungodly powerful, or super over the top. Please keep them realistic!
Generally, we encourage our members to make well rounded characters, with an equal amount of flaws and good points. Try and stay away from a character who is too perfect, or never does anything wrong! After all, flaws are what drive a story and help build character!
Dramatic backstories are okay for your character but try to be sparing in your use. Not everyone can inherit their recently deceased grandfather's farm in Raccolto; nor do we want them to.
We have a no kill policy, and this also applies to your character's history. They could have passed away and come back as a ghost, but they cannot have killed another person, or been murdered themselves.
Harvest Lunatone is set in the Pokemon World. We do not allow characters to be from real world countries. However, they may still be of real world nationalities. For example, your character may be French and from Kalos, or Chinese and from an undisclosed region!
Each property (farm, ranch, or store) comes with a Pokemon. Your character does not have to adopt this stray Pokemon, but it will roam about the property no matter what your character does.
**Information on how to create a character who is a merperson, ghost, gmax, mega or paradox Aspect can be found by clicking the 'Special Characters' button above, or navigating to 'Misc Characters' using the arrow beside character creation in the menu. A member's first character may not be a merfolk, UB, Paradox, gmax, or mega, but ghosts are allowed.
When making changes to your character or your character's history, please note the group first with the changes for approval. Since your character is what we judge on, we want to be sure that any changes are positive.
Your application deviation will either be a picture of your character on the visual application or a written piece about your character.
Members will earn PD for the application art/written description, as well as the written portion (personality/history/etc) as though it were a standard submission. Please see the Earning page for that breakdown!
Visual applications must have a full-body, colored picture of your character.
If you post your visual app and character bio apart from each other please make sure they link back to each other!
The download file on DeviantArt, linked above, has both a .PNG and .PSD version of the app, as well as the font we used, if you'd like to use that. If you would prefer not to use the application template provided, that is fine!
If you choose not to use it, please make sure your application picture follows the basic format & includes: name, age, birthday, Pokemon, and job type.
A background would be nice but is not necessary.
We care less about the quality of the artwork than the effort we see that has been put into the artwork and the deviations comment.
Artwork by other members of HL, or outside artists may be used with permission for the visual portion of an application.
Credit to the artist MUST be linked explicitly and clearly in the submission description.
The member submitting this character would not get PD for the artwork (only the written portion) but if a fellow member does the artwork, they will earn PD.
Group currency or items cannot be exchanged for this artwork. We ask that group currency or items for outside groups the members have in common also not be exchanged as a reward.
Special events that call for reference pieces (like the Cirque de la Lune and Isle Competition, among others) can also have reference artwork by other artists uploaded for a visual to offer for cameos. This is only applicable for the reference piece, and again, if a fellow member does the artwork, they will earn the PD. All other rules for these events follow the above points.
For a written application, we wish to see a short story that is visually descriptive of your character. That is to say, we want to know what your character looks like by the time we've finished reading. If you can do that in a small paragraph of a story, great. If you want to take longer, go right on ahead. We ask that you don't write a novel for this part-- this is just an application, and we're going to have to go through a lot of them. Keep our attention, keep us entertained, give us a beginning, a middle, and an end; that is all we're looking for. We've got to get a good description of your character's physical appearance.
This story is separate from your character's history and personality.
In the artist's comments of your deviation, please fill out the following fields. Don't be afraid to add a bit extra!
Name: Your character's name. In other words, what they introduce themselves as.
Age: How many years has your character lived?
Gender: Is your character male? Female? Non-binary?
Pokémon: The Pokémon species your gijinka is.
Height: How tall is your character?
Birthday: The date your character was born. Please include your character's birth year for our inventory purposes! If you struggle to calculate the year, here is a handy calculator! Our group is set in the present day. Set it as Month/Day/Year!
Home Island: The island your character lives on-- choose one from the main four islands here! Be sure to read up on the islands! Some are better for one job type than others.
Personality: What does your character act like? Are they angry or calm? Hasty or relaxed? A five-sentence minimum with positives and negatives fleshed out enough to give us a good idea of how your character acts.
History: Your character's past. Please put some effort into this! Three paragraphs (or at least 15 sentences) is the minimum we will accept for this field, although we prefer detailed histories over short summaries.
If your character is new to Raccolto be sure to include how your character found out about Raccolto and why they decided to move there.
The max age a character obtains their Aspect traits is 12 years old. Anytime before then is acceptable, but no later.
NOTE: Please research your character well and be respectful in your portrayals. Understand the do's/don't of cultures, physical injuries, illnesses, etc.
Ability: Your character's ability that their Pokémon Aspect can have.
Moveset: It must be moves your character’s Pokémon Aspect can learn. Battles don't often happen, so consider moves that are good for their job or life. A character may only know a maximum of four moves.
Job: (Farmer, Rancher, or Business Owner)
If your character is a farmer, Farm Name:
If your character is a rancher, Ranch Name:
If your character is a business owner, Shop Name: and Stock Type:
Starter Pokemon Race: Any First Stage or Non Evolving Pokemon can be choosen. Fossil Pokemon can be picked as starters without the need to use an item.
You can change the eye color from the official design. Only colored parts of the eye (iris) may be changed, not black or white parts. Heterochromia and other eye patterns need a modification item to be permitted.
Starter Pokemon name: (If it is still a stray then please call it ‘Stray.’ )
Starter Pokemon gender:
Talents: Any talents or skills that your characters has. What are they good at?
Fun Facts: Any fun tidbits you'd like us to know about your character that don't fit anywhere else?
Please separate Talents and Fun Facts in applications. We'd like to see at least three of each, please!
Event Titles (optional): Any titles your character has earned through in-group events. A list of these can be found here.
Try to keep your characters realistic! Ask yourself questions if you need help. Here are a few good things to address:
Is my character old enough to handle this?
Can my character ranch if they never had Pokémon experience? Likely not. How can they overcome that hurdle?
Can they farm or ranch if they have an illness that makes them frail? Farming/Ranching is a lot of work, a frail character might usually be better suited owning a business. Do they have things that help them in the work?
Research your characters well! It is important to be respectful if you are portraying something that you, yourself, have not experienced. Do proper research on culture, race, physical ailments, mental illnesses, etc.
Help make your character feel real with positives and faults! Faults make everyone human. Try to have an equal amount of both!
Look at current members' applications! Do we have too many ranchers? Are we lacking on farmers? Do we have ten floral shops, but no daycare workers? Be creative and original with your job choice, and don't be afraid to have fun with it!
Please Note:
Character Applications for existing members CAN NOT be submitted during our two big events (includes the two extra weeks before cirque) and the group openings, if submitted there is NO guarantee they will be looked at until after the events concluded!
After living the life of one person, after finding love, or finding joy in friendship, there comes a time when one wants to experience another life. This is the time of additional characters!
Below are the requirements for creating and owning additional characters. All characters must go through the same approval process as the original applying characters. They need to have their own character sheet, as well as the filled-out character info form above, before they will be reviewed and officially accepted or denied.
To start the review process on your additional character you need to send us a note with a link to their app!
The slots listed below may be unlocked and used in any order, and using one slot will not disqualify you from another.
For example, a single donation of 45K PD when a member only has one character would earn Donation Slot keys to unlock slots B and C at once if they have not previously been unlocked. Or, that member uses their Timed Slot every 2 years then donates enough to earn a Donation Slot.
The Slots will be listed on your personal inventory right next to your username. They will ONLY count up, not down! The numbers you see next to "Earned Slots" and "Timed Slots" represent additional characters you can make! For example, if you have 3 Earned Slots and 2 Timed SLots that means you can make 5 additional characters! The number won't change even if you fill slots, so if you got 3 additional characters already, and 5 additional character slots. That means you are using 3 of those and only got 2 open slots for new characters!
Each character slot has a cooldown of three months after it is filled, before you may submit your next character. The three month waiting period is calculated from the date your app was submitted to the group. The waiting period will end ON the third month.
Example: Submission date 1st January - February (1st month) - March (2nd month) - 1st April (3rd month, you can submit your next character now)
Members start with this slot filled as their first character!
2nd & 3rd slot are earned via 15,000PD each donated to the Divine Spring (info here)
4th and 5th slot are earned via 35,000 PD each donated to the Divine Spring
6th slot and beyond are earned via 75,000 PD each donated to the Divine Spring
Every 2 years in the group nets you a Timed Slot. This can be used to freely unlock a character slot.
Is there a time limit for how quickly/soon after receiving a sug-hug I need to finish the changes?
Nope. You are able to take your time to complete the adjustments needed to pass the check. You are able to cancel your attempt at anytime, should you wish to think over further. If you wish to change your character completely, you will need to apply again if you are not a member, or send a new note if you are a current member to start the process over.
Can I change or update the design of my character for free or do I need an item for that?
If you are not changing their special status (like going from a regular Buizel to a Merfolk Buizel), no items are required! Please notify us if you do however! Also for Special Residents (Awakened and Merfolk) we need to make a quick design check so please send us a note regarding that!
Can characters have lived all their lives on Raccolto? I recall this wasn't possible.
It is now, yes! You can also have had your character move to the islands 5 years ago or longer instead of needing to depict them having just moved in.
What does the Immediate Family tab on my character's Inventory do? Who gets included?
This is the place for other Player Characters and mPCs that are related to your character! Siblings, Parents, Grantparents. Cousins, Nephews, Aunts/Uncles. Your characters' Children. Partners, Spouses and even Ex-Spouses/Partners (if desired).
Do evil organizations still exist (Team Rocket, Plasma…)
Off island they do! Everything in the pokemon world still exists off the island chain. Raccolto has its own challenges.
Can I have my character be raised in the wilderness as background story?
Yes! This also applies for adopted mPCs.
Can my character have been to or lived in the Ultra Space?
Yes!
With pokemon that have different forms, is our character able to change as well?
Yes and no. Forms like a Rotom, will stay permanently. But weather, like Castform, based forms are adjustable with their weather based forms.
Can I adjust ages later after acceptance?
Yes, you may adjust a resident's age. Within reason of course, no jumping to 50, from 30.
I know there is a marriage system in the group, but can I enter with a character who is already married?
Yes! Though the same system applies to them as well. Characters cannot marry NPCs, if you want to feature the spouse they need to be a player character. If another member owns the spouse, you need to do 3 Heart Events and a 'Ceremony' which in this case can be something like an anniversary party, or vow renewals. If you enter with a married person and bring the spouse in later as another character of yours, you also need to do 3 heart events and a 'ceremony'. Heart Events can only happen between player characters, you cannot have heart events happen between a character and their spouse if they have not been accepted as player character yet.
Can my Character have been on a Pokemon Journey in their backstory?
Yes! However while we allow children as young as 10 to do so, we need a bit of information on how they got by all on their own. Did their parents send them money? Did they have a sort of stipend for their journey? What happened when your character needed parental permission for something, and so on. You do not need to operate in detail, a breif mention sufficies!
Yes. Each character slot you purchase comes with 1 Swap. This means if you have 4 character slots, you have 4 Swaps available. If you have 2 Character slots, then you have 2 Swaps available. You may use these Swaps on any characters you have. You cannot regain Swaps once they have been used.
There is no fee for switching characters. You will receive the money you have spent on Upgrades for the switched character back. The items of the switched character will automatically be transferred to another character if one is available. Pokemons are a bit more difficult. You can request to keep the amount of Pokemon your switched in character can hold, the money you receive by switching out characters can be used to upgrade the house to hold more Pokemon. The Pokemon your new character CANNOT hold either have to be given to another character, put into the adoption center, or be released (for no additional fee).
Titles will be lost. Collectibles can be transferred to other characters but you NEED to request this otherwise they will be lost! Blue Feathers cannot be transferred.
If I switch out or remove a character with a special status, will I get a refund on the items I used for their creation?
Yes! You will also get a refund on the items used if you merely request the special status to be removed. The refund works as follows, you will gaint 50% rounded up. You can pick which items you want back. Example: A Blessed Shiny Shard needs 18 items to craft, you would receive 9 of your choosing back. A Gmax Curry needs 7 items to craft, and you would receive 4 of your choosing back.
Can a character start out as an employee but later become the owner of the place they work as?
Yes!
Can my character be a student/apprentice or in need of sorting out working licenses when I bring them in? This would only be temporary.
If your character currently cannot hold their own job despite planning to, example a rancher/farmer who needs to renovate their house and property or a business person who is in active training for their job, AS LONG AS your character receives SOME KIND of in-universe payment you are free to headcanon this. To earn produce they need to be working the job they are registered as.
