Whenever you advance towards or achieve one or more of your goals, you mark off an experience (XP) box on your character sheet. At the start and end of each Chapter, you can erase any number of marked XP boxes and gain that much XP to spend on improving your character.
Spend 1XP to retrain, losing a Talent or Spell and choosing another Talent/Spell you qualify for
Spend 3 XP to gain a new Talent
Spend 4 XP to gain a new Specialisation, or increase a specialisation from +1 to +2
Spend 5 XP to increase a specialisation from +2 to +3
Spend 6 XP to increase one of your Rank 1 Masteries by1 rank, up to Rank 4
Spend 8 XP to increase one of your masteries from Rank 4 to Rank 5, or Rank 5 to Rank 6
Requirement: Forceful 2+ and Graceful 2+
Effect: Whenever you make an attack roll of any kind against an enemy who has not made a retaliation in this scene, or against an enemy who is not aware of your presence, your attack roll has Advantage and deals an additional 2 damage if it hits.
Requirement: Arcane Mastery Rank 2+
Effect: Choose a spell type you don’t know. You can learn those spells. You can take this talent multiple times, choosing different spell types each time. Note that this talent does not let you learn any extra spells straight away - these merely become available to learn in future.
Requirement: Champion class
Effect: Whenever you are within Intimate range of an ally, your attacks and that ally’s attacks both have Advantage.
Requirement: Back to Back and Skill Mastery Rank 3+
Effect: Whenever you are in Intimate range of an ally, if they successfully hit with an attack you may use your Reaction to make a single ranged attack against any target, or to make a Reload action.
Requirement: Back to Back and Martial Mastery Rank 3+
Effect: Whenever you are in Intimate range of an ally, they gain 1 armour if you are wielding a shield.
Requirement: Arcane Mastery Rank 2+ and must be able to learn and cast at least one type of spell
Effect: You can learn an extra spell from the type(s) you can cast.
Requirement: Arcane Mastery Rank 3+, must be able to learn and cast spells from at least two different types, must have the Broad Study talent.
Effect: You can learn another extra spell from the types you can cast.
Requirement: Arcane Mastery Rank 4+
Effect: You may maintain two spells at once.
When you take this perk, choose an NPC or faction that you have interacted with in a positive way over the course of the campaign so far, or you may create one from your past to bring into the game. This NPC or faction becomes your connection. Factions you can join include (but are not limited to) The Fellowship of Restoration, Shields Without Banners, the Eyes of the Architect and the Sanguine Lodge.
Your connection will help you out, and can provide intelligence, muscle, resources or anything else useful. However, they will require something in return for these services.
If your connection is an NPC, their services will be limited to whatever they are good at, and what can be achieved by one person. However the favours they may demand of you will, in turn, be less onerous. If your connection is a faction then they can provide a considerably greater degree of support, but their demands will be greater; they may swear you to secrecy, require a membership fee or demand that you go on missions on their behalf.
If you take this quality during character creation, you can create a character or faction that you are already connected to.
Requirement: Graceful 2+ and Skill Mastery Rank 2+
Effect: When you successfully Back Out from a melee combat, you may move a distance of up to 1 Zone without using an Action.
Requirement: Your Defiant and Ruthless total 6+
Effect: You deal an extra +1 damage for each Wound you are currently suffering.
Requirement: Martial Mastery Rank 2+
Effect: When you are Engaged with a single enemy, and there are none of your allies also engaged with that enemy, you deal an extra +1 Martial damage.
Effect: You have an artifact or a small ritual (touching a piece of iron, saying a certain prayer, donning a particular pair of boots) that brings you good luck. At the start of each Chapter when you roll your Lucky, if you have that item on you, or have enough time to perform your ritual, you can roll the d4 twice and choose the highest result.
Requirement: Astute 3+ and Defiant 3+
Effect: When you fail to maintain one of your spells, you may choose to succeed in maintaining it. If you do, you cannot use this ability again until the next scene.
Requirement: Empathetic 3+ and Skill Mastery Rank 3+
Whenever you Catch Your Breath or have Downtime, you can encourage friendly PCs with a tale of their deeds. Each character who you encourage gets a bonus dice equal to your Skill Mastery; they may use this dice at any time to improve the results of any Aspect roll they make. Once they have used this dice, it is lost until you use this ability again. This dice is also lost if it is not used by the next time the character Catches Breath or has Downtime.
Requirement: Graceful 2+ and Ruthless 3+ and Skill mastery 2+
Effect: As an action, choose a creature within range 3, then roll your Skill die and note its result. This provokes Retaliation from the creature you targeted. Until the end of your next turn, all attacks made against that creature deal bonus damage equal to the result you noted.
Requirement: Graceful 2+ and Ruthless 2+
Effect: When you are Critically Successful on a melee or ranged attack, you can choose to maim your target. If you do, a maimed target has its speed halved (to a minimum of 1) and attacks made against it have Advantage. If you do this, the target successfully Retaliates.
Requirement: Forceful 3+
Effect: When you are Critically Successful on a melee attack, you can choose to shatter their armour. If you do, their armour is reduced by 1 for the remainder of the scene. If you do this, the target successfully Retaliates.
The GM should tell you if the target has armour to shatter before you use this ability.
Effect: Increase your maximum strain by 2.
Requirement: Astute 2+ and Creative 2+
Effect: Whenever you Scavenge for Provisions, you find an additional Provision.
Requirement: Breaker or Champion
Effect: As an action, roll your Martial Mastery. You clear that much Strain when you do this, then you must test your Martial Mastery once.
Requirement: Rush of Adrenaline Talent and Rank 3+ Martial Mastery
Effect: When you use your Rush of Adrenaline ability, you gain armour equal to your Defiant until the end of your turn.
Requirement: Theurge who follows Aera or Sentinel
Effect: The goddesses Sentinel and Aera are known to be lovers, both acting and keepers of fate. A good number of those who follow one goddess or the other may pledge themselves to both, gaining their dual blessings.
If you are a Theurge who follows Aera then you also gain access to the Psychopomp class ability, and you can learn and cast Death spells. If you are a Theurge who follows Sentinel then you also gain access to the Holy Archive class ability, and you can learn and cast Divination spells.
Requirement: Forceful 2+
Effect: When you are Critically Successful with a melee attack, you can choose to move your target to a position within range 0. If you do this, the target is successful in their Retaliation.
Requirement: Graceful 2+
Effect: You reduce the number of actions needed to reload a reloading weapon by 1, and you can replace an Energy weapon’s Power Cell without using any of your actions.
Effect: Whenever you cast a spell with the [Attack] tag, you can choose to deal damage with it using your Martial or Skill Damage instead of your Arcane Damage.
Requirement: Warmage Talent and Rank 2+ Martial Mastery and Rank 3+ Arcane mastery
Effect: Whenever you cast a spell with the [Attack] tag, you can cast it through a weapon you are carrying. If you do, add any of the weapon’s tags of your choice to the spell.
You gain 25 chips. If you take this quality during the course of a campaign, tell the group what stroke of good fortune caused you to come across this money. If you take this during character creation, you can use the chips to buy extra items for your character to start with.
