Before the Unmaking, humans had spread all across Atrius. They communicated and traded with each other with vast information networks and built technological marvels that could transport them from one side of the globe to another in a matter of hours. Pre-Unmaking human societies were varied melting pots, and while the Unmaking brought the old world’s infrastructure crashing down, the mixed world humans had created persisted and reemerged from the ashes.
As a result, there is no ‘average’ human. Skin tones can range from pale to dark, hair can be thick or thin, red or black and heights vary wildly (though rarely exceed six and a half feet). Since the Unmaking, humans’ love of travel and trade means that they were quick to reestablish links and connections with one another. The days of being able to travel across the world in mere hours may be gone, but those who are outgoing enough can mingle with humans from all across Atrius.
Humans were the quickest to recover from the effects of the Unmaking, but were among the most drastically changed by it. While the raknin spent time in hiding, the askriit attempting to rebuild what was lost, the vitareen and steelborn attempted to find themselves and the duren stumbled out into the world, Atrius’ humans were already forging new societies from the rubble.
While attempts have been made to recapture past glories, modern humans on Atrius look forward. Relics of the old world are still sought after, but as useful tools to be replicated and used instead of venerated as keepsakes. This attitude served them well, and they raised great cities and new nations within just a few centuries of the Unmaking. Now, the glories of the ancient past look like they are not just within reach, but that they might one day be surpassed by Atrius’ human population.
