The Unmaking was a tragedy that saw the matyrdom of many of Atrius’ gods and split the remainder from the material world, confining them and the Ironmind to the Transcendent Circuit. While they are separated, there are those who can still connect to the gods, linking with their deities through the power of their faith to act as their agents upon Atrius. Those who can connect with their gods in such a way are the Theurges.
Theurges are as varied as the gods they serve. Those who serve warlike gods like Sentinel or the Avus brothers will clad themselves in armour and wield weapons. Others, who more reclusive and esoteric deities like Aera, are ascetics who wield raw divine power.
The Glowlands boast a surprising number of Theurges, drawn here by the bidding of oracles, by ecstatic visions, or by the direct intervention of a god’s angelic agent. Whatever the draw, their presence in the Glowlands suggests that there is something here, or many things, which have drawn the eyes of the gods.
Class Goal - Divine Calling: You adventure at the behest of your god. Choose a religion and a deity to dedicate yourself towards; your goal should align with that of your god, to some degree.
Starting gear: You start with the following:
A mace
A holy icon to channel your divine magic
A suit of light armour
Starting Mastery: You start with Rank 2 Arcane Mastery or Rank 2 Martial Mastery
Starting Proficiency: You start proficient in hand weapons, maces and clubs, bows and crossbows, light armour and medium armour.
Class Ability - Prayer Uplink: You have a divine patron, either one of the six Great Minds or another entity on the Transcendent Circuit that you follow. Each deity has a blessing and allows the Theurge to access a type of spell. You can pick one from the list below, or alternatively you can create a god or Circuit entity to follow and work out a suitable ability and magic type for you to use with the rest of your group.
Aera is the goddess of knowledge and prophecy, who codes the massive data archives of fate and enforces it alongside her beloved Sentinel. She is a cold and calculating god, dedicated to the acquisition of knowledge and the reconstruction of her divine libraries which were destroyed during the Unmaking. Aera’s theurges are scholars searching for knowledge, delving into the Glowlands to recover ancient archives and data repositories.
If you follow Aera you can learn and cast Divination spells.
Your divine boon is Holy Archive; during your downtime, you can enter a meditative state and attempt to search Aera’s divine archive for knowledge. Declare what you are trying to find, and then roll Astute+Precise (12). If you are successful, you find part of the knowledge they seek, or learn where you can find the answers you need. If you are critically successful, you find a more complete answer (though not necessarily the full answer).
The Avus Brothers were twin war gods, slain in the final hours of the Unmaking. They are prayed to by warriors, generals and those who stand for just causes for protection and fortune in battle.
If you follow the Avus Brothers you can learn and cast War spells.
You gain the Divine Shield ability; you can use their reaction to grant anyone within range 1 an extra 2 armour. They must test their Arcane Mastery when they do this. They also gain proficiency in heavy armour.
Chainbreaker is the god of freedom and liberty. All Steelborn have his divine code as the foundation for their own minds, making him the father of their people.
If you follow Chainbreaker you can learn and cast Metal spells.
Your Divine Boon is Liberate; once per scene, you may Back Out of a fight you are engaged in, and are automatically treated as being Critically Successful on that roll. Alternatively, you can use this ability to break a chain or open a simple lock.
Karathon governs storms and the seas. Karathon is an unpredictable deity who still bleeds from the wounds of the Unmaking, with a seething hatred of machines. Those who make offerings to Karathon do not do so out of the naive belief that he might favour them; they do so so that his fury will turn upon others instead. Those theurges who follow Karathon are wild zealots, filled with a sliver of their god’s rage and pain.
If you follow Karathon you can learn and cast Storm spells.
Your Divine Boon is Stormfury; when you are Critically successful with a melee attack, you can choose to roll your Arcane Damage and add that to their your Martial Damage. If you do so, the attack provokes retaliation from your target, and any other foes you are engaged with.
Raela is one of the martyred gods, who gave her life to sever the Transcendent Circuit from Atrius and to trap the Ironmind. Raela was the creator of the Vitium nanomachines that now reside in every living thing in Atrius, creating them to protect and provide for the world in her absence.
If you follow Reala you can learn and cast Vitium spells.
Your Divine Boon is Hand of Vitality; as an action, you can restore 1 Strain to yourself or to anyone within Intimate range.
Sentinel is the goddess of death and fate, and is steward of midwives and morticians. It is her eternal watch that protects the souls of the dead, and it is Sentinel who enforces the grim ledgers written by her lover Aera that dictate the moment of each mortal being’s death. Her theurges are dour priests who lay the dead and undead to rest, rarely welcomed but never unwanted.
If you follow Sentinel you can learn and cast Death spells.
Your divine boon is Psychopomp; when a creature within range 0 dies, you bring their soul to the afterlife and briefly strengthen your connection with Sentinel, granting you Advantage on your next roll.
