Roll: Defiant+Precise (13)
Range: 2
Effect: You call a metallic object in range to your hand. The object you choose must be one you can hold or carry, and it will take the easiest path to you. If it is bolted in place, held by another character or exceptionally heavy, the difficulty of casting this spell increases to 17.
Roll: Defiant+Graceful (Melee or Ranged threat)
Range: Self
Effect: You surround yourself in a field of magnetic energy which drives away metal weapons such as arrows, blades and bullets, and turns them back on your enemies.
This spell can only be cast as a prepared spell (see Chapter 7), with the condition for casting it being that you are targeted with a Retaliation that uses come kind of metallic weapon. If you are, roll to cast this spell.
If you are successful, you take damage from the Retaliation, but your attack suffers that much damage as well. If you are Critically Successful, you take no damage from the Retaliation, and your attacker deals their damage to themselves. If you fail the casting, you take the damage and no harm is dealt to your attacker.
Roll: Defiant+Empathetic (11)
Range: 1
Effect: You cast this spell on another friendly character, bolstering their resolve and stiffening their spine with iron. They add your Defiant score to theirs for the duration of the spell (boosting their maximum Strain and all rolls), and have Advantage on any rolls made to resist fear and coercion.
Roll: Defiant+Astute (14 or Ranged threat)
Range: 1
Effect: You manipulate magnetic waves to push, pull and shift metal weights without needing to touch them. When you cast this spell, choose a target that is made up significantly of metal; you can move that target from its current location to any point within Range 1 of you.
While you can shift significant weight, your limit is roughly 100kg per point of Defiant you have.
When you cast this spell successfully, test your Arcane Mastery once.
(Note that you can cast this spell on yourself, in which case you move to any point within Range 1 of wherever you were when you first cast it; this can’t be used to finagle your way into infinite movement by philosophising about moving away from where you currently are).
Roll: Defiant+Precise (Ranged threat)
Range: 3+ (varies)
Effect: You shape a small portion of the Vitium in your body into an arrow, and use arcane power to focus a magnetic charge around it. When you release, it shoots forth with devastating power.
When you cast this spell, you can use up any number of actions to cast it. You can use more than two actions, though these must be consecutive across your turns; you cannot take any other actions while casting this spell. If you are attacked or hurt while casting this, the spell is cancelled.
This spell has a base range of 3 and deals you Arcane damage. For each additional action used to cast this spell, roll your Arcane damage an additional time and add that to the result, and increase its range by 1. If you use 4 or more actions to cast it, this spell gains the Energy property. Roll to cast it when you use up your final action.
Roll: Defiant+Ruthless (Threat [Ranged])
Range: 3
Effect: The target’s weapons scab over with a layer of rust, dulling its edge and weakening its heft. Whenever the target of the spell deals damage with its weapons, it rolls its damage twice and picks the lowest result.
This spell is ineffective against creatures that do not have metallic weapons, such as animal claws and jaws or those wielding wooden or stone weaponry.
Roll: Defiant+Forceful (14)
Range: Intimate
Effect: Your skin, or the skin of the character you touch, becomes protected by a sheen of reinforced Vitium. The character affected by this spell gets 1 Armour, which stacks with any other protection they are wearing.
This spell cannot stack with itself.
Roll: Defiant+Creative (12)
Range: 0
Effect: Choose a body of metal that is up to a metre in size. Over the course of the rite, it takes a new shape of your choosing. While the magic of the spell will be enough to keep the structure standing while the spell is cast, once you end the rite the magic will support it no longer; if the shape you chose isn’t sound, it may collapse under its own weight
