The GedMatch Tier 1 Triangulation data may be limited. As such, the data may be incomplete and may need to be supplemented with 1-to-1 comparisons on kits of interest. Since release 2016r01, the importation of a Relative’s Tier 1 Matching Segment Search data into GMPro’s triangulation data, can help eliminate most of the 1-to-1 comparisons.
This is an optional extra that may prove handy for some people but can be ignored by others with no real detriment to their overall experience and ability to use the data imported through the normal channels. It adds triangulations to all relevant segments across the entire database for that relative, not just for that segment, which is why when you do it, you might see dozens being added, yet only one or two show up in that box, the rest are for elsewhere in the database.
1. On GedMatch, run the Tier 1 Matching Segment Search for a Relative
Change the Show graphic bar to No.
Change the Chromosome number to your target Chromosome if desired.
You can choose to narrow the Chromosome down to a specific stand and end point if you wish.
You may need to respond to a Captcha.
2. On the Relative Details > DNA Comparison, ensure that you have a segment selected on the left.
3. In the bottom middle area, right click and select the bottom option “Add Triangulations from Gedmatch Tier 1 Segment Search
4. Read the message and ensure that are importing the right data for the right match.
5. Copy the data on the GedMatch page and paste into the window.
6. Click Import to load. Just the data for Relatives in your database will be loaded.
7. When the data has finished loading, review the log file if desired, and click Close.
While you may not want to do this for every GedMatch kit, it can be helpful for selected kits.
From Becky: This is not on the Import Data menu because it is Relative specific, and the Relative record has to be up for it to be loaded correctly.
