When set up correctly, Research Profiles take the chromosomal and ICW / triangulation data from your existing database and compiles them into one focused profile.
1. First create a new profile as outlined Profile Creation. Do not add any match keys to this profile.
2. On the Ancestors tab for this profile, load a GEDCOM for this profile. It is suggested that the child of the MRCA couple is used as the starting person for the GEDCOM.
3. Back on the Profiles tab, right click on the research profile and select “Open Research Profile”
4. On the resulting pop up, select the MRCA group to be associated with the new profile.
All relatives associated with this MRCA group must have their Status marked as “MRCA Found”
5. Select the relatives whose ICW DNA segments are to be included in the new profile
6. Right Click and select option “Add Selected Relative Segments to Research Profile”
7. Click OK on the "Data added to research profile" pop-up
8. Repeat for another MRCA group if desired.
Some points to remember when setting up and using a Research profile
Who to include in a Research Profile really depends on what data you have available in terms of Relatives with the MRCA status. It isolates the DNA segments from your selected group, and effectively provides you with a filtered view of just that known DNA source. It should make no difference including a 1st cousin once removed or including multiple 4th cousins, or even a combination of cousins of different ranges, as long as all have the same MRCA or closer.
If you find that you have included someone who does not belong to the group, you will need to delete the research profile and start over.
If you find a new relative with the MRCA, you can add just that one to the Research Profile the same way you created it in the first place.
