Genome Mate Pro is an app to help manage the data collected from autosomal DNA research. Genome Mate Pro has no connection to the internet in any way and can not access any website. Any data to be imported into Genome Mate Pro needs to be gathered by the user, and all data is stored locally on the user’s computer, not in the cloud or on a server.
Genome Mate Pro can be seen as a “Swiss Army Knife” for managing your DNA data and interaction with relatives. As such, it is complex. There are a lot of moving parts that must be understood in order to ensure you’re getting the most out of the tool.
The focus of this guide is the tool and its underlying database. What the guide will not do is explain the different ways that people will go about using the tool, nor will there be a detailed discussion on the use of other tools that may be mentioned.
If you are looking for something, use the search facility available in the top right corner of the website. All details and screenshots have been taken from a Windows 10 system. Other Windows systems may deliver different screens, and Mac and Linux screens will differ again.
The sequence of steps to be followed to start using GMPro are:
1. Set up database(s) - see Installing GMP for the First Time
2. Set up profile(s) - see Profile Creation
3. Activate or Set up Templates and load data, see Importing Data
4. Load a GEDCOM (optional, but you can’t set an MRCA without one), see Load a GEDCOM or Load an Ahnentafel for more information
5. Set up App Settings
6. Use Genome Mate Pro.
