Translation criticism is the systematic study, evaluation, and interpretation of different aspects of translated works. It is an interdisciplinary academic field closely related to literary criticism and translation theory. It includes marking of student translations, and reviews of published translations.
Through the development of each project during this course it became clear exactly why translation criticism holds such importance in our field as future translators. Going through the text or whatever needs to be translated, thoroughly, keeping in mind techniques, cultural aspects, and the message that needs to be made, is an essential part of a translator's job and ensures the translation is done at an expert level.
Personally, I lean more into literary translation so the project where we needed to translate a song was challenging but by far the most rewarding. The challenges this term were more personal than academic but it taught me that even through the hardships, those who persevere can ultimately achieve their goals by putting in the time and the work.
