Computer-assisted translation tools, better known as CAT tools, are a great help for translators. In short, CAT is the use of software to help the human translation process supported by information technologies. Machine translation on the other hand are translations generated the programs themselves.
My biggest takeaway from this course was learning about the variety of CAT tools and Machine Translation programs available online. Though neither should be used as a formal or official translation without the human reviewing aspect, they are of great assistance in reducing the time it takes to translate an entire document. I can't imagine how time consuming the process must have been prior to these tools.
The content of the course was spot on and using different combinations of CAT and Machine tools, then comparing them and using bits and pieces of each translation for the final translation was a great exercise and practice for what's to come once I'm officially certified.
