I looked into a common soul chord progression as i wanted to create a soul inspired song.
This chord progression i was going to start looking into first: I - IV - iv - V (Cmaj7 - Fmaj7 - Am7 - G7)
Im going to have to take time to learn alot of maij7 choprds as i havent learnt many of them on the guitar yet so this is going to help me improve not only my vocal techniques but also my guitar skills which are lacking.
Cmaj7
G7
Am7
Fmaj7
There are many different ways at playing the cmaig7 chords all making a similar sound however used for different sounds for example the bar chord version makes the chord alot more full to be rung out noty attacked.A video on how to play a cmaig7 chord as a open chord is in the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc6gG09oauU
A G7 chord is used a lot in softer music especially in soul music thanks to its amazing sounf it produces when it has added effects like reverb.
I started experimenting with Am7 chords wuth a mixture of c varients and it sounded amazing so im g=probably going to use that chord as a starting point.
I started experimenting with the chords i researched and experimented with the chord pattern in different places on the piano and created a amazing chord progression that i loved and had a great idea for whaty i wanted to make the song about. I wanted to make it `bout a overthinker actually loosing his lover and what he was thinking came true. I can reflect on this subject slightly as i am a over thinker however havent experianced the rest so im going to be making a story. I know a lot of people can reflect to this subject and that they understand how this feels. Depending on how long this takes i would also like to make another song going down a completely different aproach maby looking at being inlove with a girl keeping that soulful style but mabye make it a bit more upbeat to the first song. I struggled with lyrics so ive aranged to have a session with emily a fellow musician in my class who is amazing at song writting abouty a similar style of music. Ang shes going top explain to me little techniques in how she works really well and comes up with amazing lyrics.
I also want to take the style of chords from a song i love called colors by black puma and the chords you can see below i also want to use a technique going from a major of a chord to the minor and found out about that from my friend Frazer Azes. Im going to try and incorperate some of these chords into my music. Also taking inspiration from ultra light beam but stan walkers version. as that shows the gospel style of music im takong ispiration from.
