List things you are good at. This can be music, organisational,
communication, personal skills….
‘I am a good guitar player. I am confident on stage and communicate well with
others’
‘When I am confused about something I know who I can talk to to help me
work it out’
‘I feel very confident working in the studio, and this is an environment I feel I
am able to be at my most creative’
I am a good vocalist and have had a lot of experience in the music mainly being in the category of performing. I have grown over the last two years in my comunicating skills with people or my band mates on stage both helping me improve on my everyday life and my musisian life still. Im very good at asking for help if im confused and i usually really want to exceed in subjects im intrested in and or struggle with. I also know were to look for help which is a key skill to have in life.I am in a extremely successful cover band which has grown massively over the past year of being formed and i believe that its is only going to get popular in the years to come. We have already had half a year worth of weekly bookings and are still being asked for more. This has helped me grow in the music industry and as a person Its allowed me to show of my talentof being a singer to a large varity of people.I also have started growing my skill of playing / making my own music and am going to start producing music to help show people the music i love and how i can make that my own and show as many people as I can.
Identify areas that you know you need to improve on.
(Music, organisation, communication, motivation, punctuality…)
‘I have trouble listening to other musicians on stage and this can impact the
timing and sound levels of our performance.’
‘I am often late to rehearsals and haven’t always practised my parts. This
results in less effective rehearsals and causes some tension with other
players.’
‘I’m not great at completing projects. I often have cool ideas, but then struggle
to see them through’
I struggle to have motivation in some aspects of the band for aranging things as i do leave things to the last minute. However i have made a table to help me sought out my time and work harder on subjects. I struggle to try things i dont believe i can do for example a song that migt. e slightly to high i would say no instead of the boys lowering the key and making it are own version. I woud also not work as hard on something i dont enjoy for example a song that i dont enjoy listening to but in the cover busniess that is something your going to have to do.
What ideas and opportunities do you think you could make use of to
help you develop your career as a musician to the next stage and excel?
‘Working with other musicians or different projects’
‘Getting more relevant work experience in an area you are interested in… e.g.
doing live sound at local venue or festival’
‘Releasing new music and getting media exposure e.g. BBC Introducing’
‘Making use of your upcoming FMP to work on something exciting and
relevant to you’
‘Studying a specific topic/course at uni’
I would like to work with new musicians on making origial msic as i havent done much of this while trying to develop as a musician. The reasoning behind this is i want to go to the next step as a musian as I wont make any money from doing this however i cant become popular doing covers. I would like to go to the next level and i want people to learn about me through my music and show my life through my music and hopefully grow a large following from doing this. I would also like to not have to follow rules of music for example when playing covers you have to make it similar to the original were as when playing your own music you can just do what you like and make it your own. I would also like to get work experience maybe working for a venue or being a roddie for a band to get inspiration and see wha its like possibly going or tour or watching a wide varity of music to posile see if i can get any ideas for music i want to make. Also looks really good for future jobs in the music indusry.
I would like to work possible for a festival to see wat its like setting up a event and also try to meet new bands and ask them how they got out there in the industry making there own music. I plan to release new music for my FMP possible as a solo musican and have session musicans help me out with the instrumental aspects as more experience means my lyrical writing will improve. Im going to try to release a ep and see if im able to make around four songs allowing me to portray all the different kinds of genres i want to make my music from. For example i might release a soft relaxing song then a heavier one after and see what gets the most amount of atention and go from there. I would like to do a comersal music course at uni as that is for students that know what they want to do in the ndstry for example being a performer and touring and they work around you doing that. If i was able to get on one of these courses then i can really work on making myself a orginal artist. I also am taking a gap year and hoping to work on making original music and find what sound i want as a musican.
Identify any challenges or obstacles that might prevent you from
accessing any of the opportunities you have highlighted
‘I have to travel far to get into Exeter, so can’t go to gigs often’
‘I don’t feel very confident or have lots of experience in a certain area’
‘I’m struggling to find the right musicians to work with’
A threat that i have to this idea is i dont have alot of experience in this subject as have spent most of my life only making cover music so im behind alot of musicans who have been making music for the majority of there career, however i still have a good imagination. I also struggle with the fact a lot of artist i know are already in a band, especially the musicans i want to work with and it means that i would have to work around people. I also would have to work around my band i have now to get gig dates as we are extremely busy and would have to free up time for practising however i believe i would be able to do this. I also am trying to find out what music i want to create for example the kind of genre and what techniques artists use in that genre/ kind of music.
