Planning: This week my planning was one of my most positive things I conducted as everything I wanted to achieve and when I wanted to do it was at the correct time and at the professional state I wanted it at. I had the performance on wednesday the 7th so I wanted to release social media content on both monday and the Wednesday which was the day of the gig. As my first video got a few hundred below 1000 I had to make these videos good and at a really high viewers count as it's the last chance to get people in the local area to come to the gig. I also had to do a lot of planning for when i'm rehearsing and getting down to the performance as all of this information was really important as I had a lot of people wanted to rehearse and work with me this week but I had to fit in the priority of my band and are set along side the other things I was doing with people and I did this extremely well.
Research: Due to the fact that I was extremely busy with practical work I wasn't able to conduct a large amount of research but I was able to do some research into stage presence and also stage placement as I really want my performance to be perfect and even though I can't move the equipment I want to look into like moving to the crowd and band members so on but thats the only research I conducted this week mainly primary.
Work conducted: This week I created multiple content videos however only posted two however I planned to release some after the performance but I Didn't as I was so busy with other work as i must have created five videos. I also did two sets with my band and another band i was asked to work with for there FMP so I played for around a hour and I then got loads of amazing feedback on my performance. My band had the largest band for the performance which was amazing there was aproximitly 60 people watching my performance which was amazing to see as it meant a lot to me whatching people enjoying my music and it gave me a huge buzz. I was also posted on loads of social media content and tagged which means loads of people saw me performing which was amazing and loads of people were asking about when my music. is coming out which means hopefully loads of people will see my music.
How to improve: I did make a few mistakes in my performance mainly regarding the cover songs, this was due to the fact the only time we had performed them together was on the day of the performance and i should have got everyone to practice together as a group multiple times let alone once on the day of the performance. Another thing would have been trying to get more people to come to the gig as it would have been nice to perform to a even bigger audience however the performance had already exceeded my expectations.
Professional development: My professional development is improving as I was able to achieve some milestones I had never done before and it is the starting point of my career. For example I have done a huge amount of performances as im in a cover band but this is the first time performing my music that i made solo as i have performed songs ive done with large amounts of people however i created everything for these songs with help from session musicians so it was a huge development for my career and to have loads of good feedback was amazing. I also was able to create music in the genre of country music which I wasn't able to do before and hadn't ever done and that was a goal I wanted to achieve joining this course and i want to carry this on in the future.
Future goals: This week has been a huge milestone for my career and i'm going to take that into consideration because I know now what music I would like to pursue so when I go to uni I can explain that and find people with a similar style of music and make a band so I now have a starting point to achieve my goals of being a country artist.
Planning: The one aspect of my planning that was not successful and actually caused me to feel a lot of stress was my rehearsal planning. Due to the fact the only rehearsal we had as a band was on the day it meant that everyone was a bot extra nervous and was worried about the performance. Another thing wrong with it is as a performer your told not to practice on the day as you will start to second guess yourself on the day of the performance which isn't what you want to do. Another thing that wasn't planned was i was asked to rehearse with Meraki my other band playing at the performance although the basses and drummer of that band is my basses and drummer which meant we had to figure out times to split it up and it meant we only got a hour of rehearsals however everyone here was extremely talented and we were able to be completely rehearsed.
Research: One thing that I wish I had research before this week would be a bit more about stage presence in different ways to the audience interacting with your Music. My reasoning for this was I wanted my performance to be very different to the others, so the audience members could connect to easily, and then hopefully want to listen to more of it when my music comes out. However, due to the fact, I did not conduct this research it's meant that I was unable to do this for my performance. However, it did go really well in the end but to them in a good way to improve, but I can always remember this for my next performance with my original music. Another thing I should've researched would've been different vocal warm-ups and techniques as even though I have done a lot of research into this in the past. I haven't done much research for this kind of vocal singing style with a lot more earthy distorted vocals. And what this would've done is meant my voice, just have that extra impact on the audience and sound even better than it did. Even though my voice was really good on the night of the performance.
Work conducted: Some of the work that I did conducted not go to plan today, but that was due to the fact of poor planning and also lack of understanding of the evening. What are these things being I was late to the sound check, this was due to a member of another band before me, forgetting some equipment in college, and due to the fact I was the closest one to the building. They asked me to go and get it for them. Even though they did affect my plans I didn't mind doing it as we are a community. I did feel that the best way by contacting the person planning the event my guitarist what are the rest of my band members. Luckily I got there before both of my sound checks that evening so it didn't cause many problems have I didn't want to help set up and I wasn't able to do that much due to the fact of me being slightly late. Another thing that I did struggle with this week was my promotion, as even though my video got a large amount of views I wanted to target a different kind of audience and I believed I would havce been able to do this if I had more time.
Problem solving: This week luckily I didn't have to do with a large amount of problems however, all the problems I did come across I dealt with very well and resolve them. These being the rehearsal time problems with Meraki they wanted to rehearse d all day and I had to explain to them my situation and why that can't happen. After informing them of this, they were very understanding however, we both put ourselves in the situation by not practising beforehand, and I had to explain to them that due to me being in both bands alongside my bassist and drummer it meant that they seriously need to practice as unlike them we have to do an hour of music instead of 30 minutes and they were very understanding which meant a lot to me and we were able to get all our practising in and this meant the performance went well for both bands. Another problem I had to resolve was the fact that due to me performing for a hour I needed some help with lyrics as some songs I had to learn on the day for the other bands set as I wasn't informed we were doing them and I dealt with this by having my iPad with a start in which I can use just as support if I get lost as this is what I do in my cover band outside of college.
How this effects my professional development and goals: One thing that this week has affected with my personal development as it seems as though I'm not as hard-working other people performing due to the fact that my only performance and practice session on the same day. However, this is only due to bad planning and also lack of time to practice from every collaboration I have as all of the matter is that an FMP which I respect and have to focus on that as we are coming towards the end of the project. Due to me helping loads of people out it caused me to notice that I had taken on a bit too much work however, people are understanding my situation with timing and that's why my collaborations don't mind the only practice being on the day as we have worked separately just not in a group which was better than the alternative.
One thing i could have done is tride to book some rehearsal sessions in a practice room in college or out of college in which everyone im working with can attend even emily as that way we can run though all the songs have a setlist everyone know the order so no one gets confused on stage as we did have a few mistakes occur solely from miss understanding of the songs as people had learnt different thing and so on. Luckily they were very talented and able to play it of. This way we wouldn't have had to practice on the day and everyone would have been a lot more comfortable as one thing i want when people are working with me which is what i want as I don't want them being put of to work with me.
I have learnt a lot more about performing your own music and how it is very different to performing over people's music and I was able to figure this out as i performed half my own music and covers. However what was interesting is I got more audience interaction and good feedback from my own music which was amazing and was perfect for my project as I asked people which song was my favorite and what people enjoy the most and there was a mixture but people did enjoy my modern country style song Left and Right and I believe thats due to the fact it's similar to what people know as country music as its in the charts a lot more recently that what it used to be.
