Planning: Even though the plans I put in place for my timeline and FMP were changed due to this week I was able to take that and make new plans and it was only due to me having expected for there to be large amounts of problems it didn't cause my FMP to be effect to much just how I was going to get my final out come. The problem wasnt my planning however the fact that I haven't researched into specific aspects of the course and what availability there would be with studios and time and I was only told by my producer however he didn't think it was my plan that was the problem but studio availability. The plan we created is to have something recorded as a guide for when we get back so harry and the others working with me aren't entirely in the dark.
Research: The research I conducted was about acoustic mic'ing and different microphones. Even though we didn't use any of this research it was extremely important that it was executed as soon we will be going into the studio and after my research im able to go to my producer and say I want a specific sound and I know a mic'ing up technique which will help us achieve this as even though my producer is very talented however does not have as much experience as most full time producers so I thought I would conduct the research to help both of use in this situation. I also learnt about different microphones that we will be using and this helps as it means that I will understand the equipment more so I know how to use it to its best ability.
Work conducted: I didn't actually execute much work this week however I did sort out everything i'm going to be doing for the rest of the FMP time frame. I was able to also deal with all of my collaborations sorted however I didn't actually conduct some solid work towards my FMP for example didn't do much work on my ep and songs.
How to improve: Even though I was able to deal with a large amount of problems if I wanted to improve I should have done some primary research into how long it would take to record these songs and then how much studio time I would have access to and I could have found this out by any pier to do with the music building. I also could learn more about recording as I haven't done much recording on my own and not in a group and if I had done this I would have had a better understanding of the process.
Professional development: Even though im dealing with a large amount of problems it is in fact good as I am learning that this is going to happen in the future when i leave college and go to write my own music. This is also making me learn more about writing your own music as a solo artist and working with session musicians which is something I most definitely will have to do in the future.
How it will help me achieve my future goals: This week is going to. help me achieve my goals as im having to learn to deal with a lot of problems in a small time frame and still conduct my work on my ep as I can't be behind on my work. It's also helping me as I am going to university so i need to know these skill snow so that's how these situations are positive.
Planning: Even though there is a large amount of problems and I was able to make a new plan my original plan didn't work at all and I had to rewrite the whole plan which wasn't good on my behalf. This had caused problems and it spewed from me having miscommunications with my collaborations especially my producer Harry Kirkup. My planning has been flawed and I could have done with some time to focus on this before I started FMP and that way we wouldn't have had this problem.
Research: Due to the fact all of my research at this moment in time was focused on genres and my actual ep I didn't have much understanding of the studios apart from what I new from my previous units in my college years. I was waiting till closer to the deadline of easter break as I was originally recording after easter. However if i had done it before hand and conducted a bit of research I would have been able to see this and deal with it earlier.
Work conducted: I wasn't able to conduct much work due to the fact that I spent the majority of this week trying to deal with problems instead of actually conducting work on my ep which isn't good as I don't want to get behind luckily though I was ahead last week so this hasn't caused loads of disruption to my progress however I want to stay ahead with my work. I also need to stay on top of my work as I need to follow my new plan ideas which is to record before easter break.
How to improve: As I said for positives I need to focus on trying to make sure my plans work with the college timing and the rest of the people I'm working with. A way to improve would be try to focus on a song at a time instead of finish all four and then record and also be better at planning aspects of my FMP would help me improve as a artist not only FMP.
Professional development: Im struggling to improve as I cant focus on my ep and am dealing with problems however the what I am developing with these problems is I am constantly learning new information about this aspect as a artist and that is developing me alone.
How this is affecting my goals: My goals are being affected as it isn't allowing me to carry on with all of EP but also its making me achieving my goals a lot harder than it has to be and what I need to do is try and deal with these problems as soon as possible as that way I can focus on achieving my goal of releasing a solo artist Ep about my favourite genre, this being country music and soul.
How would you have conducted this week differently: There were a few ways that I could have gone about this Week differently that might have made it a lot easier. One being on the first day as soon as I found out from harry how he felt about my studio situation and sit down with him and my collaborators and try to figure out what is going on and how we can overcome this situation. What this would have done is not have had this situation take up a week of time and I could have spent the rest of the week focusing on more important problems like making the songs for my EP and even look into promotion or conduct some more research. It would have also meant that I wouldn't have had to spend some much time trying to explain the situation to All of my collaborators individually and I would have been able to save so much time doing it with them all in the room. Another way I would have been able to conduct this week is focus on this situation over the weekend as it isn't going to happen straight away as we have a few weeks till easter so i could have dealt with it all over the phone instead of doing it in person and that would have meant it would be slightly pressured however with all that time I would have been able to probably finish one of my songs and get a really good start on some of the others. I also would have been able to start my forth song as there was only three songs we had demos for, this would have helped me massively with the practical aspects of my FMP.
One of the key things I have learnt from this week is be prepared to change the majority of your plans when doing this kind of project. As I want and that's why this caused a larger amount of problems than it should have done as little things that would be prepared for these problems would have not existed. I've also learnt about being realistic with stuff like recording and this is why i'm debating whether to continue with four songs or change it to three. I have also learnt about conducting research on subjects as this will help you understand what you are doing at all times easier and cause no problems.
