Planning: My planning this week was extremely successful and this can be seen by how much I was able to achieve this week while my plans changing and I had to deal with problems. Even though I had some personal problems which meant my plans for some days had changed I still was able to achieve everything I wanted to by the end of the week this being making social media account and content and also doing recording with george my drummer helping me out.
Research: I conducted a large amount of research into promotion and I also gained some primary research into the studio equipment and interface we use. I started the week by researching into algorithms of different social media platforms and how they are different and I then researched into how social media helps artists gain fame and how its changed music drastically over the past few decades with money how much easier it is to become famous. This research showed me how to use hashtags to get more people interested in your product and also allows it to get on more peoples for you page and also how different sounds and kinds of content changes their kind of reaction you get from people as you need them to watch the whole video and not skipt it.
Work conducted: I was able to create a social media page on tik tok and used my own personal acount which I then posted a video on later on in the week and got over 800 views on it. I also was able to go in the recording studio and record drums for my first track however it has caused problems with the guitar but it is a good start and wont put me behind which is a positive. All of the work I conducted was very positive and it has allowed me to carry on and actually gain more popularity with my EP release as I gained a large amount of messages from friends asking me about the ep and wHen it was being released and also about the performance and that's why i'm planning on doing another tiktok explaining more information for my views on my socials.
How to improve: One problem we had was the fact that billy had recorded the guitar out of time in secions which meant we had to get rid of the guitar while recording and record the drums with the vocals and then see if we could get billy in the studios again. A good way to improve is after we had recorded the guitar sit down and make sure we were happy with the recording as if we had done this thoroughly we wouldn't have this problem. Another thing would have been recording drums first as most people do this to use it as a starting point as it must be in time however we couldn't get George in the studios however we have at least recorded it now so we just have to
Professional development: This week is helping me work on my Professional development with a large amount of different factors. These being problem solving, communication and planning and these things are helping me develop in that professional matter. Im having to deal with a large amount of problems over not only this week but my Final Major Project as a whole and its allowed me to stay sharp and not only solve all of these problems but find ways I wont have to deal with them again so in a way it's good I have to deal with them. Ive also had to work on communicating with people over the phone messages or in person. My ability to do this has improved over my FMP period and it also is gonna help me in the future.
Future goal: This helps me achieve my goals of being a musician as I'm going to come across everything i had to do this week on a regular bases so I have to know what to do in every situation and me knowing what to do and how to take these opportunities is going to be crucial in my future especially at Uni. Another thing is taking opportunities of my creativity with the clapping even though it didnt work irt was a good idea and it did work just the guitar was wrong. Also learning about studios as i can learn what produces the best sound is crucial as I will go into a studio in uni and if I know what I want it will save loads of time and ill be able to get more work done.
Planning: Even though the planning I put in place did go well I still had to book a studio session last minute and thanks to this I had a large amount of problems. Because I was only able to get hold of a hour long session it meant that george wasnt going to have a long time recording the drums and wont be able to get loads of takes. This instantly made everyone rushed and stressed which is not what you want when recording at all let alone drums as george can't go out of time or make a mistake because it will ruin the track but also be extremely obvious. What I should have done is look last week or at the start of the week and try to get the usual recording sessions I do which is two back to back on a wednesday as you can spend half of the first session setting up and the other hour and a half recording and be really picky to get the best recording but I didn't. Luckily george was able to get a extremely good recording I was really happy with.
Work conducted: When we attempted to record the drums we realised that Billy had recorded some parts of the song wrong, I wasn't able to notice before hand as I don't sing in these specific sections so I only find out when george was in the studio which caused a large problem. It meant that I had to make a decision whether to not record drums for this song or be behind and try to find more rehearsal time to record guitar. I made the decision to go with this option as it means that even though it's behind we will have a song that is in time and if I hadn't done it then the song would have sounded extremely empty and out of time and I wouldn't have been able to get the sound quality I was looking for with the recording so I made a risky decision which meant I had to act fast. Another thing that my work didn't go well in was I wasn't able to get lucy into the studios which means next week i'm going to have to finish a song with two instruments and a whole song and I need to make a decision on how to do this but because I couldn't find time for lucy to go in the studios it means that i'm now behind the plan and timeline I created.
Problem solving: This week due to the whole situation with billy's guitar I had a large amount of problems I had to solve with communicating with Billy and Harry (producer) to find some time in the studio I would be able to deal with this as soon as possible. The main this this effected was my time management as I was very booked up the next week with collaborations and I needed all of my recording done in the next two weeks so this put some stress on me so I had to find a way to sought it out. What I did was talk to my teacher to find if any other teachers had studio access that they weren't using or they didn't need. I was confident with this as my teacher has helped a lot of students so they were sure enough i was able to find some studio access.
How things have affected my personal development: These situations i've come across this week have not prevented me developing and learning new skills but have done the opposite so i haven't had much problem developing apart from the fact im noticing similar problems occurring so i have to change the way i'm doing something to prevent this.
How this effects my goals: As a solo artist or any kind of musician at all your First EP is really important as it is the starting of your career so you want it to be good to look back at in the future and its also a good way to gain popularity through your music however because im behind I might end up rushing my track which could lead to it not being at its best ability and this means people will talk about that instead of the music Ive created which isn't what I want.
One thing I could have done is some to my peers about recording after college as I know from last week that your able to record or practice or just use the facilities in the music building later on Wednesdays. The reason being is the teachers have to stay in and as long as there is someone present it is allowed however it has high demand but we get priority as its are teacher mainly who stays. What I should have done is asked if we could have used the time and even if it was through a interface into a mac we could have recorded bass and guitar but not the drums this would have meant that all we have left to record in the third song which I wouldn't be so stressed about. And if we were able to get are hands on the studio could have possibly recorded drums for my thirds song as a starting point and then george doesn't have to work on my music till the performance which would be perfect as he could focus on his on FMP.
This week I learnt a large amount social media and creating a actual post and how positive it can be for musicians to get there point across for there music to a large audience in different ways. For example I tried to create funny confusing content which every clip explained something as it would draw people in so they don't get bored and then they want to find out what i'm trying to explain to them about as most tik toks are skipped pretty quickly and it was interesting learning about different ways to prevent this and keep people interested. Another thing I learnt about was different algorithms and when you post multiple times constantly with loads of hashtags the app will show your media rto more people and you will gain more views is you create interesting content people like.
