This is my living cost spreadsheet for the next year depending on if I do not get a full-time job. The reason there are no questions about rent is because in my gap year I am going to be living at home with my parents. This is because it saves money, and I am lucky that my family is willing not to charge me rent if I save my money from the year for university so I can help pay for food and accommodation. They have also agreed to keep feeding me throughout the days for free which means my spreadsheet is only for weekends out with friends and I plan to take any excess money from that to my savings account. I have also investigated full time work placement, and my plan is to take all the money I make from my part time job which is my band and use to afford expensive and all the money from my full-time job will go straight in a savings account and I will not touch it. This way I should be able to save a large amount of money. One job I have investigated the most would be Great Western Railway aprentaships for a year and take all the money I make and go to university and if not carry on working for the train lines.
If I decide to go to university the first year you will have to live in halls which is usually quite expensive, however it can vary depending on the university you are looking at. For example, my main choice the room prices vary depending on the kind of living situation you want to be in. Lake side is the cheapest accommodation consisting of a lot of shared rooms and shared bathrooms. As you can see below the prices vary from 75 pounds to around 176 for the best room in this area per week.
However, the nicest room on Campas start of from !97 pounds per week which is extremely expensive, and they can group to 239 pounds per week Which is close to 10,000 at the end of 39 weeks (about 9 months) which is one year / semester. I would go for the one depending on my money I have saved as if I have not made enough for example only a few grand then I will go shared bathroom however I would not have a shared room as would need my own space.
A good thing to do is rent somewhere with bills included overwise you can get out of hand with your bills being more than you planned for as this has happened to people, I know. Rent has increased in many areas due to tax and energy and water bills increasing quite rapidly, which is why getting rent with bills included would be my main goal.
I investigated renting with a group of people and the average price was from 600 to 800 pounds, which I cannot afford without getting a full-time job and a steady hourly rate of £10 plus. If I were going to live on my own, I would not be relying on anyone, and the price would be slightly lowered. I know this from my research as you can see in the picture above. This looks southwest in Exeter however it varies in living areas. For example, it is less money to live in the north, however the better paying work is in the south so I would prefer to live down here and I would not mind living alone.
I did some research with my friends looking for a house share next year, and they sent me the best prices they could find when house sharing, and it is more money for a house share. Although there Foughts on the matter was it is worth it as living alone is not nice and they think it will be more fun living with your friends. It averaged in around 600 pounds although this is without bills which is quite hard to afford and I would have to save for a year and if I wanted to go to uni this wouldn't be possible but if I decide not to go to university after saving money for a year then I might do this depending on the circumstances. It will vary depending on the amount of people you are living with however the ones i have looked into are 6 people plus however i would like to live with around three to four other people as i feel it is easier to deal with. I also would like to live in a house share as it means you dont have to pay for travel as much but one trouble is if im driving i might miss my chancve to get parking which might cause a problem so will try to find somewhere woith parking in the vacinity for example a housing car park I do see these around exeter a lot and other citys.
After look at all of this i would like to move into a two bedroom place with one other person preferably however this is only if i dont go uni. Although i also wouldnt mind going to house share with 4 plus people however isnt my favourate idea and i do think if i get a full time job this would be a good job opportunity.
