Some photos from yesterday´s newspaper. We were interviewed about our Erasmus+ project (s), both students and teachers. I also pointed out that we are the first school in our municipality having an Erasmus+ project and hope that more schools want to apply for projects. My students also told the journalists about the mobilities and what they have learnt.

Our students playing "Brännboll" , fireball or rounders, bat-and- ball game. It is a part of the PE curriculum in some schools. It has become a "traditional game" since 1700 century.

Fireball, also called round ball, is a Swedish outdoor game, that you play with a tennis ball and bat.It is somewhat reminiscent of sports such as baseball, softball, cricket and bobball but has never been a distinct competitive sport. Fireballs are usually played at schools' sports lessons, at summer camps and in similar contexts.

No officially adopted rules have ever existed and fireballs have been played in a variety of variants.

The game is not only played in Sweden, but also in all Scandinavian countries and over the years it has become a Swedish tradition because Swedish people like to play it with friends and family and also at school.

Rules:

When you play rounders you need two kinds of rackets; one that kind of looks like a cricket racket and with this racket the ball is easy to hit, because the surface on the rack is bigger and it is often used by beginners. The other racket is a baseball racket and in our opinion is this racket way difficult to hit the ball with. And we use a tennis ball to play with.

When you play rounders are you divided into two teams; the catching team which is out on the field and the batting team, which is in a que to try and hit the tennis ball as far away as possible.

If you hit the ball you have to run around a path marked by four cones. In brännboll, rounders, we don't have a pitcher instead the batsman throws or bounces the ball up to try and hit it and the batsman usually have three tries to hit the ball. You can play it risky and try to make a home run or play it safe and stay at the second cone. When the catching team has catched the ball are they supposed to throw the ball to the burner, who will burn you if you are not on a cone. When the burner shouts out "burned" and stamps on the plate you are burned and have to walk to the last passed cone. And that gives the throwing team a point. You can also get points when you run around all cones. Other points:

  • Generic scoring system (Due to the lack of a professional organisation governing brännboll, many local varieties exist):

  • Home run – 6 points for batting team

  • Player passing fourth base – 1 point for batting team

  • Team Caught out – 5 points for catching team

  • Caught out – 1 point for catching team

  • Fly ball (catch the ball before it hits the ground) – 1 points for catching team

    • In some varieties, catching the ball with one hand only may yield more points.
