About school

The primary school of Palagia is located 3 km north of Alexandroupolis,in the north-eastern part of Greece. It is a public school and consists of 6 classes in the morning timetable and 2 classes in the afternoon.There are ten permanent full-time teachers and four who work part-time.Those ten permanent teachers will form the pedagogical team if the Erasmus+ program is approved. There are a hundred pupils aged between 6 and 12 years old.As a public school it aims to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to its students,as well as to their socialization and understanding of the human values and ethics.The timetable consists of the following subjects: Greek, Maths, Physics,Geography,Religious Education,Social and Political Education,Physical Education,English,German,Music,Art, Drama Education and New Technologies. Except for the compulsory subjects, pupils and teachers take over programs in environmental education, health education, as well as cultural and athletic ones.Our school will soon complete the installation of the new technological equipment which will include,apart from the computer lab, computers with web camera and a projector. The school cooperates with the Parent Association, the local authorities as well as cultural and athletic associations in order to enrich and improve our students’ education and elaborate the educational programs.Our project "Finding Our Roots" will help the teachers and the students to acquire a collaborative culture with schools with a different educational background.The students will also have a chance to learn about common history and common culture and they will feel that they are a part of a larger community than their own homeland.It will help them to know their common past and to build their common future. We will also take part or take ideas of the thousands of activities taking place across Europe because of being Cultural Heritage Year of 2018 and involve people more closely with cultural heritage.We can continue to pursue the objectives of the program until 2020.It could happen that some of our students get bored by the subject of history,we can improve their motivation stating out the differences and the similarities in our mutual roots and want them gain greater awareness of differences.The key person is the headmaster of the school and holds a master in organization and elaboration of educational programs and he has participated in two Comenius projects and two eTwinning ones.He speaks English and Turkish.The P.E. teacher has participated in one Comenius project and the German teacher is implementing an eTwinning project this year. Even though, our school has participated in Greek programs and contests,it has never taken part in another European or any other transnational program except this year with an eTwinning project. All the teachers have accomplished educational programs and are capable of organizing and materializing educational activities.
