It was a very fun and unique week in Sevilla this week. I had an exam in my Artistic Monuments class that was about the most recent locations we have visited, primarily those with Arabic influence like the Giralda and the Torre de Oro. It is amazing to think about how much I have learned so far, and there is still a month left of class. I have started to feel a little bit excited about getting home, especially since I will get home right around Christmas time. I am still LOVING my time in Sevilla and I will enjoy every minute I spend here, but I am excited to see my family and friends back in the US.
I explored the city quite a bit this week. There are so many hidden gems that I am just now finding, with the help of some new friends. One of my classes got done early on Wednesday so I visited 100 Montaditos, which is a chain here. They have a special on Sundays and Wednesdays, so I got 3 little sandwiches and a drink for $4.50! Speaking of food, I love my host mom's cooking. There are some favorites that she cooks regularly like soups and pisto, but lately she has been making lots of new dishes too. I told her I want to learn how to make pisto, so she said she would show me how! My friends and I also went to a Tex-Mex restaurant in our neighborhood which was much better than I expected, and I had the best pizza of my life at a restaurant in the center of the city!
On Thursday our classes were all canceled because there was a large rainstorm forecasted. Several cities in Spain have been having suffering from terrible flooding because there is not adequate drainage for the heavy rain that we have been having. Because of this, Sevilla decided to be careful and cancel school that day in case we had flooding issues. We ended up having very minor rain - less than we have had in the past few weeks. While I don't have classes on Thursday anyway, it felt like a snow day to have everything canceled! My friends also had classes canceled so we got chai and coffee together, then explored the city a bit and went to a book store. I have been reading a lot lately, and I got a new book by my favorite Spanish author Miguel Delibes. Reading was perfect for the rainy day!
