Aiden and I with our completed tiles
My traditional style tile
One of my ceramic tiles
On Tuesday I took a class in Triana that taught about ceramics. I went with Aiden from my program and we ended up taking the class that was taught in Spanish. There were several other people taking the class so we met people from Los Angeles, Mexico, and some local Sevillians! I learned about the history of ceramic tiles, specifically in Sevilla. It was great to be able to connect the things I learned in class about ceramics and Arabic influence that is seen all over the city in the monuments we have visited. The teacher showed us different techniques that are used to make ceramic tiles, and it was so impressive to see the work that goes into creating such elaborate pieces. Aiden and I decorated two different tiles. He chose to make his tile an image of the famous bridge to Triana, and I opted for a traditional style tile with an image of a deer. Our second tiles were smaller and we added colors to the different sections to make a design. We took pictures of our finished pieces, but the colors will change after they are fired. I am excited to see the finished ceramics!
