I visited Cádiz earlier in the semester, but I decided I wanted to visit the coast again before I leave. My host mom also visited Cádiz a few weeks ago, so she gave me recommendations of things that I did not get a chance to do last time I visited. Cádiz is only about an hour and 45 minutes away from Sevilla on the train, which makes it a very easy day trip. After arriving at the train station I walked around for a while. The city was even more beautiful than last time I visited because of all the Christmas decorations. The sun was shining so it was a great day to spend there. I walked around the rocky tide pool areas and visited Castillo de San Sebastian, a fortress that overlooks the coast. While exploring the tide pools I found an octopus. It was my first time seeing an octopus in the wild and it was amazing to see how intelligent the creature was and watching the way it moved.
I had lunch at a tapas restaurant where I had salmorejo and a mix of different fried fish. From there I went to the beach and spent the rest of the day there. Unfortunately the sun went away for most of the time, so it was not very warm to go swimming. It was still nice to be at the beach, walk around, and enjoy the ocean. I watched the sunset and eventually made my way back to the train station to head back to Sevilla. I will definitely miss having a beach so close when I return to Wisconsin!
