The beautiful University of Sevilla campus
While I was choosing my class schedule back in Platteville, the catalog was full of courses I was excited to take. I finally decided to take four classes: Artistic Monuments in Sevilla, Painting the Literary Sevilla, Theory, History, and Techniques of Photography, and Wine in Spain. While the first week was mostly introductory, I became even more excited for what is to come. To fulfill requirements for my Spanish major I just need Spanish elective courses taught abroad, so I can take whichever classes I choose as long as they are taught in Spanish. My professors are all very kind and enthusiastic about what they are teaching. Since all of my classes are with other Americans, the professors are very understanding when we do not understand concepts or vocabulary. The Artistic Monuments class is my one class taught through SAIIE, and it is definitely one of my favorites. My professor is wonderful and she answers all of our questions with in depth and meaningful responses. There are only three students in that class, so it is a very personalized experience. We spend every day walking around Sevilla and learning the history of the city through the various monuments. During the first week we have been learning about the Romans, and we even visited a museum that is full of Roman artifacts and a whole city. It is so fascinating to learn about the civilization in Spain from so long ago, especially in contrast to the United States where our historical monuments are MUCH newer.
