Visiting the Pantheon!
Cappuccino and a cannoli for breakfast
As I have mentioned, I had never left the United States before this trip. Since arriving in Europe I have discovered how safe and easy it is to travel around to different countries or cities, even as a solo female traveler. My first trip to Málaga was a great introduction to how much fun I can have on my own, and it made me eager to plan my next trip. This weekend I decided to take a trip to Rome, which is somewhere I have wanted to go for a long time. My high school friend Sydney happened to be in Rome for a day at this time too, as a part of her study abroad program. I flew into Rome on Thursday afternoon and ended up getting caught in the pouring rain for a while! I had a chaotic day and nothing went according to plan, but I was so excited to have these adventures with my friend who I had not seen in years. That night we ended up renting electric scooters and touring Rome that way on our way to her hotel. We rode around on cobblestone streets, saw beautiful architecture, and even rode by the Vatican. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life! I spent the rest of the weekend alone, since Sydney left with her program the next morning. I toured the Vatican Museums, saw the Sistine Chapel, and was amazed by St. Peter's Basilica. I ate lots of phenomenal food throughout the weekend, and I was happy to get to explore everything at my own pace. I stopped at all of the major tourist attractions throughout my time there, and it was so amazing to see so many famous pieces of artwork and buildings that I have learned about throughout my years in school and college. Rome has been a bucket list destination of mine for a while, and I am so grateful that I got the chance to spend a long weekend there!
