As I prepared for my trip abroad, the whole process felt so daunting. I needed to consider where and what I wanted to study and then find a program that supported my needs and interests. SAIIE was a perfect match for me. After speaking with the directors and previous students I learned more about the process and realized that it was much more attainable than I realized. had never been out of the country before coming to Sevilla, so planning and preparing was the hardest part. I got my passport, filled out lots of paperwork, booked flights, and before I knew it I was getting on the plane! As my mom and I pulled up to the terminal I started to get nervous, and reality started to sink in. I felt so excited for my new adventure but a little overwhelmed with all of the changes. Once I made it through TSA and found my gate the anxiety turned to excitement. I was so excited to finally be taking the step to study abroad!
My roommate Mallory joined me at the airport and the excitement doubled! Mallory is also a UW-Platteville student, so we decided to make our travel arrangements together. We did not know each other well before leaving the US, but it was nice to have someone else going through the same experience! We took a trip to Ireland on our way to Spain, since we had a little bit of time before classes started. Now Mallory and I know each other much better and are able to support each other throughout our semester in Spain.
